Kenny Willekes TSX Player News Log
01/09/19 - Michigan State defensive lineman Kenny Willekes says he's returning for his senior season. Willekes, who broke his leg in the Spartans' Redbox Bowl loss to Oregon, said on Twitter on Tuesday night that he doesn't want his career at Michigan State to end that way. Michigan State had a disappointing season in 2018, but the defense largely did its job. Willekes led the Spartans with 8 sacks. - AP College Football
12/16/17 - 2017 ALL-BIG TEN THIRD TEAM (COACHES): DL Kenny Willekes, Michigan State,...Willekes, who entered the program as a walk-on for the 2015 season, has emerged as a force on the defensive line for the Spartans. Willekes earned a scholarship this past spring and hasn't looked back since. The native of Rockford, Michigan, has started 11 games at defensive end and leads the team in tackles for loss (14.5 for 42 yards) and sacks (7.0 for 28 yards). Willekes played in just one game as a redshirt freshman in 2016.

Willekes, who has been named to the final ballot for the Ted Hendricks Award, given annually to the nation's best defensive end, ranks tied for fourth in the Big Ten in sacks (7; 0.58 pg) and fourth in tackles for loss (14.5; 1.21 pg). He recorded two sacks each against Michigan (Oct. 7), Minnesota (Oct. 14) and Maryland (Nov. 18). Willekes leads the defensive line and ranks fourth on the team with 69 tackles. He also has two fumble recoveries, two pass break-ups, one forced fumble and seven quarterback hurries. He ranks second on the team with 150 production points. - Michigan State Football
