02/25/14 - CB Asante Samuel was released by the Falcons.
The 33-year-old Samuel was due to receive $4.9 million in salary and bonuses next year. Parting ways with Samuel, who had lost his starting job to rookie Robert Alford, will save the team slightly more than $4 million against the salary cap.
In 11 games, including 10 starts, last season, Samuel had 30 tackles, one interception and one forced fumble. Of Samuel's 51 career interceptions, 10 came in 2005 with the New England Patriots and nine in 2009 with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Samuel has picked off Palmer in two consecutive meetings. Last season, Samuel intercepted Palmer and returned the pick 79 yards for a touchdown in a Week 6 win while Palmer was a member of the Oakland Raiders.
Samuel is one of 10 cornerbacks to record more than 50 career interceptions. He is one of 39 players to accomplish that feat and including playoffs, his 58 career picks are the second most among active players.
