Draft Scout *Mark Andrews News
02/27/18 - 2018 NFL Combine: Must-see Prospects per Position: TE Mark Andrews, Oklahoma, 6-4, 254, 4.77...Currently ranked 1st among TEs, 34th overall and a 1st-2nd round value...With all due respect to the quarterbacks, tight end might be the most hotly debated positional group in the 2018 draft with several worthy candidates competing to be the first off the board. Andrews enters the Combine with the most hype after winning the Mackey Award and leading all FBS tight ends with 958 receiving yards. The former receiver should run well. Scouts may be more interested in how he performs during the bench press. Team doctors will also be interested in how Andrews, who has Type 1 diabetes, handles his condition on a day-to-day basis. - Rob Rang, NFLDraftScout.com
01/04/18 - Oklahoma teammates Mark Andrews and Orlando Brown will enter the NFL draft. Andrews, a tight end, made his announcement on Twitter on Thursday. The redshirt junior won the Mackey Award as the nation's best tight end this season. The three-time All-Big 12 selection finished this year with 62 passes for 958 yards and eight touchdowns. He is projected to be selected in the first two rounds. "I will miss my teammates, coaches, and friends on campus, but I am excited for this next step," Andrews said in the statement. - AP College Football
12/30/17 - New England Patriots star Rob Gronknowski is the new measuring stick for tight ends, and Oklahoma's Mark Andrews gets the comparison from someone qualified to offer it. Sooners defensive coordinator Mike Stoops recruited and coached Gronkowski when he was the head coach at Arizona. In the 6-foot-5 and 254-pound junior Andrews, Stoops sees plenty of similarities to Gronkowski in practice everyday. "Gronk is probably an inch taller. Maybe a little more length," Stoops said at Rose Bowl media day on Saturday. "But their ability to run routes and get open are what's unique about those guys."
Andrews has 58 receptions for 906 yards and eight touchdowns this season, leading Oklahoma in catches and touchdown catches. He leads all FBS tight ends in yards receiving, ranks second in receptions and is tied for third in touchdown receptions. Andrews has to improve as an in-line blocker to match Gronkowski, Stoops said. That isn't as big of a problem in college, as Andrews frequently lines up in the slot. But it is Andrews' receiving skills that will be enticing to an NFL team looking for the next Gronk. "Mark can do whatever he wants on the football field," Stoops said. "Create matchups, that's what Mark is going to be able to do at the next level." - AP College Football
12/19/17 - 2017 ALL-BIG 12 FOOTBALL FIRST TEAM (COACHES): TE Mark Andrews, Oklahoma Jr. Scottsdale, Ariz./Desert Mountain,...A repeat member of the first team, Andrews leads the nation's tight ends with his 848 receiving yards this season, while ranking second with 16.6 yards per catch, third with 51 receptions and ninth with six touchdown receptions. OU's all-time leader in receiving yards by a tight end (1,655), Andrews' 51 receptions this season are third all-time among Sooners who played the position. - Oklahoma Football
12/07/17 - 2017 JOHN MACKEY AWARD WINNER: A unanimous All-Big 12 First Team honoree, Andrews leads the nation's tight ends with his 906 receiving yards and receiving yards per game (69.7), and is second in yards per catch (15.6), third in receptions (58) and sixth in touchdown receptions (eight). He leads the Sooners in receptions with his 58 catches, the third-highest total ever by an OU tight end and the 22nd-highest mark overall, and eight touchdown receptions. "It's an incredible honor to receive this award, especially at a place like the University of Oklahoma where there have been a ton of great tight ends like Keith Jackson, Trent Smith and Jermaine Gresham just to name a few," said Andrews. "Just being mentioned for this award is a blessing, but to actually win it means so much to me. So many people at OU have helped me along the way and I couldn't be more thankful to all of them." - Oklahoma Football
