 Draft Scout Mike Gesicki News
03/06/18 - 2018 NFL Combine Winners: Mike Gesicki, TE, Penn State...Barkley wasn't the only ex-Nittany Lion to turn heads at Lucas Oil Stadium as Gesicki tested off the charts. Gesicki is more of an overgrown wide receiver than traditional tight end, so it is tough to find a comparable data point among past tight end prospects. At 6-5 and 247 pounds, Gesicki clocked a 4.54 40-yard, 41.5-inch vertical, 10-feet-9 broad jump, 6.76 three-cone drill and 4.10 short shuttle. He can be a dangerous NFL mismatch weapon if used correctly. - Dane Brugler,
03/03/18 - 2018 NFL Combine, Saturday: Penn State tight end Mike Gesicki had a remarkable workout during the athletic drills. At 6-5 and 247 pounds, he posted a 4.54 40-yard dash, 41.5-inch vertical, 10-foot 9-inch broad jump, 6.76 three-cone and 4.10 short-shuttle. Gesicki is basically an overgrown wide receiver more than a traditional in-line tight end, but with his size and athleticism, he can be a mismatch weapon if used correctly. - Dane Brugler,
01/25/18 - Senior Bowl Thursday: Which position unit has performed the best during practices this week? Tight end. And that is somewhat surprising considering the top tight end at the Senior Bowl, South Dakota State's Dallas Goedert, exited early on Tuesday with a minor hamstring injury. But the rest of the tight end group has had plenty of impressive reps. At North practice, Penn State's Mike Gesicki looked like a mismatch weapon with his clean routes and angular frame to attack the football. Central Michigan's Tyler Conklin is a very smooth athlete and didn't labor getting open. Notre Dame's Durham Smythe might not have a specific strength, but he is a well-rounded player who finishes in a crowd. And Wisconsin's Troy Fumagalli doesn't impress with his size or burst, but his route-running and ball skills are why he will play in the NFL for a long time. - Dane Brugler,
12/17/17 - 2017 ALL-BIG TEN SECOND TEAM (COACHES): TE Mike Gesicki, Penn State,...First-team all-conference selection by the media and second-team All-Big Ten choice by the coaches...Earns second All-Big Ten honor of his career after an appearance on the second team (coaches & media) last season...Is the first Nittany Lion tight end to earn All-Big Ten first team accolades since Kyle Carter in 2012...Selected as one of three finalists for the Mackey Award...Ranks third among FBS tight ends in touchdown receptions (9)...Ranks sixth among FBS tight ends in yards (501)...Ranks second among FBS tight ends in receptions (51)...Has at least one reception in 25-straight games. - Penn State Football
07/12/17 - 2017 Preseason John Mackey Award Watchlist: Mike Gesicki, Penn State,...Gesicki, who is a preseason All-American according to Athlon, Street & Smith, Lindy's and Sporting News, had a breakout campaign in 2016, breaking the Penn State single-season record for receptions and yardage by a tight end. His 48 catches broke the record held by Andrew Quarless (41; 2009) and his 679 receiving yards best Mickey Shuler's previous mark of 600 receiving yards (1977). Gesicki also tied the Penn State season record for touchdown catches for a tight end (5) in 2016. He led the Big Ten and was tied for seventh nationally in receptions and receiving yards by a tight end. For his efforts, Gesicki was named second-team All-Big Ten by the media and All-Big Ten honorable mention by the coaches. Gesicki has four or more catches in seven of his last 12 games. - Penn State Football
