 Draft Scout Baker Mayfield News
03/21/18 - Reigning Heisman Trophy winner Baker Mayfield worked out for Miami Dolphins coach Adam Gase on Wednesday at the University of Oklahoma. Mayfield is making the rounds after beginning his string of visits with the Buffalo Bills on Monday, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported. The Cleveland Browns are expected to host the Sooners quarterback on Thursday and the New York Jets will follow suit on Saturday, Rapoport said. The Browns hold the top and fourth overall picks in the 2018 NFL Draft, which will be held on April 26-28 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. The Jets traded with the Indianapolis Colts on Saturday to secure the third overall pick.

The Dolphins, who own the 11th overall pick in the draft, dealt with quarterback issues last season after Ryan Tannehill sustained a torn ACL in the summer. Jay Cutler came out of retirement, but Miami failed to find its stride and finished with a 6-10 mark. Mayfield and the Dolphins initially were expected to meet last Wednesday, however the sides reportedly couldn't come together on the private dinner. Mayfield passed for 4,627 yards and accounted for 48 touchdowns with just six interceptions while leading the Sooners to the College Football Playoff this past season. He joins a quarterback contingent ahead of the 2018 NFL Draft that includes USC's Sam Darnold, UCLA's Josh Rosen, Wyoming's Josh Allen and Louisville's Lamar Jackson. - The Sports Xchange

03/14/18 - Heisman-winning quarterback Baker Mayfield participated only in throwing drills Wednesday, a day after having dinner with Miami Dolphins' brass. The Dolphins hold the No. 11 pick in the first round. NFLDraftScout.com's Brugler ranks Mayfield at No. 8 on his Big Board. "All I can do is focus on my game, focus on handling myself and put myself in good position for those meetings to show what I'm capable of mentality," Mayfield told reporters after his workout. As for his draft stock, Mayfield added: "I feel like I put myself in a good spot here to be considered the best quarterback in the draft, no matter the height question or the people questioning character. These meetings have been great for me, so I've put myself in a good spot." Among those attending Oklahoma's Pro Day were Denver Broncos' general manager John Elway and head coach Vance Joseph, Cincinnati Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis, New York Giants offensive coordinator Mike Shula, New York Jets general manager Mike Maccagnan and Pittsburgh Steelers offensive coordinator Randy Fichtner. - The Sports Xchange
03/08/18 - Reigning Heisman Trophy winner Baker Mayfield is planning to visit the Cleveland Browns, New York Giants and New York Jets in the upcoming weeks, multiple outlets reported on Thursday. Those three NFL teams hold four of the top six picks in the 2018 NFL Draft, which will be held on April 26-28 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. The Browns have the first and fourth overall picks, the Giants have the second and the Jets own the sixth selection. Mayfield also plans to work out for the Browns, Jets, Miami Dolphins and New Orleans Saints following his March 14 pro day.

The Oklahoma star had no qualms about playing for the winless Browns when asked at the NFL Scouting Combine. "That would be a chance to play football, I'd love that," he said at the time. "First things first, they'd get a winner, if anybody's going to turn that franchise around, it's going to me. They're close, they're very close, they've got the right pieces they just need that one guy and quarterback make the difference." Mayfield joins a quarterback contingent ahead of the 2018 NFL Draft that includes USC's Sam Darnold, UCLA's Josh Rosen, Wyoming's Josh Allen and Louisville's Lamar Jackson. 03/03/18 - 2018 NFL Combine, Saturday: Mayfield showed the snappy release and surprising velocity (for a shorter quarterback) that helped him complete more than 70 percent of his passes in each of his past two seasons. It also didn't go unnoticed by scouts that the hyper-competitive Mayfield threw three nice balls on post-corner routes to conclude his workout after lofting some ugly duckling deep passes the series before. On those passes -- each going about 50 yards in the air -- receivers had to slow to the point of nearly stopping to wait for the ball. - Rob Rang, NFLDraftscout.com
03/03/18 - 2018 NFL Combine, Saturday: I reached out to a NFL scout, who watched the quarterbacks throw from a suite in Lucas Oil Stadium, and asked his opinion on how the top quarterbacks performed. His take: The best outing belonged to Oklahoma's Baker Mayfield, who was "accurate and quick." Next was Wyoming's Josh Allen, who showed "some consistency." And then UCLA's Josh Rosen and Louisville's Lamar Jackson were both "underwhelming" with "waffling placement." Saturday was just one workout and these opinions are from just one scout, but interesting feedback nonetheless. - Dane Brugler, NFLDraftScout.com
