 Draft Scout Joshua Dobbs News
08/18/17 - QB Josh Dobbs will make his second consecutive preseason start against the Falcons Sunday at Heinz Field. Dobbs, a rookie, gets the call while No. 1 quarterback Ben Roethlisberger rests and backup Landry Jones works back from an abdominal injury. Dobbs was 8-for15 with one touchdown and two interceptions in his first NFL game against the Giants last week.
01/25/17 - 2017 SENIOR BOWL, WEDNESDAY: Longtime SEC fans may have a hard time believing it, but Tennessee quarterback Josh Dobbs threw the ball very well on Tuesday. The 6-foot-3 1/4, 216-pounder has always possessed a strong arm, as well as the mobility and intelligence scouts are looking for but he has struggled with accuracy over his career. That was not the case Tuesday, however, as Dobbs threw accurately and on time on a variety of pro-style routes, including slants, outs, post-corners and deep balls. California's Davis Webb and Tiffin's Antonio Pipkins were significantly less consistent with their accuracy on Tuesday. - Rob Rang & Dane Brugler, NFLDraftScout.com
12/30/16 - Dobbs, Tennessee tune out Nebraska in Music City Bowl...Joshua Dobbs closed his career with a bang. Accounting for 409 total yards and four touchdowns Friday, the senior quarterback led No. 21 Tennessee to a 38-24 win over Nebraska in the Music City Bowl at sold-out Nissan Stadium. Dobbs completed 23 of 38 passes for 291 yards and a touchdown while adding 119 yards and three more scores on 11 attempts. His total yardage was just short of the bowl record of 453, set last year by Louisville's Lamar Jackson. Dobbs' biggest play came after the Cornhuskers (9-4) cut their game-long deficit to 31-24 with 10:02 remaining on a 9-yard touchdown run by quarterback Ryker Fyfe. Following his 11-yard run that converted a third-and-3, Dobbs hit Josh Malone in stride down the middle of the field for the game-clinching 59-yard scoring strike with 8:45 left. The Volunteers (9-4) improved to 3-0 in bowl games under coach Butch Jones, all against Big Ten foes. Malone finished with 120 yards on five catches, while defensive end Derek Barnett applied heavy pressure all game with five tackles, four quarterback hurries and his 33rd career sack to break Reggie White's school record. - The Sports Xchange
12/19/16 - 2016 ALL-SEC FOOTBALL SECOND TEAM (COACHES): QB Joshua Dobbs, Tennessee,...Dobbs is just the fourth Tennessee quarterback all-time and the first since Tee Martin in 1999 to earn All-SEC coaches honors. Heath Shuler was All-SEC in 1993 and Peyton Manning was All-SEC in 1995, 1996 and 1997. Dobbs finished the regular season with 2,655 passing yards and an SEC-best 26 passing touchdowns. He also led the league in pass efficiency with a 152.6 rating. In conference games, Dobbs led the SEC with 24 total touchdowns accounted for, 17 passing touchdowns, 316.9 yards of offense per game, a 151.5 passer rating and 8.6 yards per attempt. Dobbs has also rushed for a UT-quarterback-record 713 yards and nine touchdowns on 139 carries and he owns the program's all-time career rushing mark for quarterbacks at 2,042 yards. He heads into this month's Franklin American Mortgage Music City Bowl with the third most yards of total offense by a single player in Tennessee history at 8,951. Dobbs also ranks fourth in UT history with 591 completions, fourth with 961 pass attempts, fifth with 6,847 passing yards and fifth with 52 passing touchdowns. - Tennessee Football
11/21/16 - NOV 21 WALTER CAMP NATIONAL FBS OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: JOSHUA DOBBS, TENNESSEE, Senior, Quarterback, Alpharetta, GA/Alpharetta HS...Joshua Dobbs accounted for five touchdowns (3 passing, 2 rushing) and a career-best 413 offensive yards as Tennessee defeated Missouri, 63-37. Dobbs passed for 223 yards (15-of-22, 3 touchdowns) while rushing for 190 yards and two scores. With the victory, the Volunteers improved to 8-3, 4-3 in the Southeastern Conference. Notes: Joshua Dobbs earns Walter Camp Offensive Player of the Week honors for the second time (Oct. 11, 2015). Dobbs is also the fifth Volunteer honoree since 2004. - The Walter Camp Football Foundation
