Draft Scout Dion Dawkins News
11/22/17 - LT Dion Dawkins was sick on Wednesday and was held out of work.
06/14/17 - OL Dion Dawkins, a rookie second-round pick, has been getting most of the first-team reps in minicamp. Dawkins played the bulk of his 44-game college career at Temple as a left tackle, but scouts pegged him as a guard in the NFL. When the Bills picked him, though, they believed he could play either tackle spot, and ultimately, Dawkins could bump Jordan Mills from his starting job as right tackle.
03/03/17 - 2017 NFL Combine, Day 2 Takeaways: 1. Utah’s Asiata, Temple’s Dawkins set high bar in bench press...Bench press numbers are not the greatest barometer for future success in the NFL for offensive linemen, but gaudy numbers do suggest that a player possesses an NFL work ethic. Offensive linemen showing off their strength in the bench press was the first athletic testing to be completed at the 2017 NFL combine, and the results produced some early winners, including Utah’s Isaac Asiata. The Utes lineman led all of Thursday’s competitors with 35 repetitions of 225 pounds, narrowly beating out TCU’s Aviante Collins, Texas A&M’s Jermaine Eluemunor and Western Kentucky’s Forrest Lamp, who each managed to push up the bar successfully 34 times. Though Temple’s Dion Dawkins registered “just” 26 repetitions, scouts will note that no one pushed up the bar more with arms as long as his (35 inches). Top-rated offensive tackle Ryan Ramczyk eased questions about his size (6-feet-6, 310 pounds) and strength (25 repetitions with 33 3/4-inch arms), the same length as Asiata’s. - Rob Rang & Dane Brugler, NFLDraftScout.com
03/01/17 - 2017 NFL Combine, Wednesday takeaways: 5. Other discrepancies between Senior Bowl and combine weigh-ins...For offensive linemen, arm length is extremely important. NFL teams are looking for certain thresholds, and Lamp wasn’t the only prospect with inconsistent numbers from Mobile to Indy. Temple’s Dion Dawkins is now at 35-inch arms (3/8-inch more than Mobile). Bucknell’s Julie’n Davenport is now at 36 1/2-inch arms (1/2-inch more than Mobile). Troy’s Antonio Garcia is now at 33 3/8-inch arms (1/2-inch more than Mobile). Garcia also came in at 302 pounds, a nine-pound increase from his 293 weigh-in at the Senior Bowl. - Dane Brugler, NFLDraftScout.com
01/31/17 - 2017 SENIOR BOWL: HERE ARE THE TOP 10 WINNERS FROM PRACTICE WEEK: Dion Dawkins, OG, Temple (6-4, 317)...A college left tackle, Dawkins lined up almost exclusively at left guard during the week and performed very well. There are definitely some mechanical issues he needs to clean up, but rushers were simply unable to get past him due to foot quickness, power and a nasty edge. Dawkins looked very comfortable at the new position this week. - Dane Brugler, NFLDraftScout.com
