Draft Scout SeVon Pittman News
06/30/13 - Former Ohio State defensive lineman Se'Von Pittman has reportedly found a new home after saying in March he was leaving Ohio State. Now the Canton Repository is reporting that Pittman will wind up at Akron. “It's a good fit for him,” said Charles Quincy, an assistant coach at McKinley High School, where Pittman played in high school. “Here's a young man, a Division I player, and I'm glad he gets the opportunity to go play Division I again. That's a good feeling.”
Akron has not made an official announcement about Pittman's transfer as he can't enroll in the school until July. He'll have to sit out the 2013 season per NCAA rules, but will have three years of eligibility remaining come 2014.
Pittman was a four-star member of Ohio State's 2012 recruiting class, and was one of the first recruits to commit to Ohio State after Urban Meyer took over as head coach. Pittman had originally committed to Michigan State but flipped to the Buckeyes after Meyer was hired, which led to some ill will between Michigan State's Mark Dantonio and Meyer. Dantonio went as far as to call Meyer's recruiting tactics "unethical." Pittman redshirted the 2012 season. - Tom Fornelli, CBSSports.com
03/05/13 - Defensive end Se’von Pittman no longer is a member of the Ohio State football team, an athletic department spokesman confirmed for The Dispatch tonight. Pittman, who redshirted as a freshman last season, asked for his release and it was granted, the spokesman said. The spokesman did not give a reason for the move.
Sources told The Dispatch it had to do with an off-the-field issue, and that Pittman was looking for a fresh start. While Pittman could not be reached for comment, sources said he was considering a transfer to Louisville if it can be worked out.
Pittman had made news in December 2011 when he opted to decommit from Michigan State and pledge to Ohio State and Meyer, who had just taken the Ohio State job and was on a whirlwind recruiting cycle to upgrade the 2012 class. But Pittman, who enrolled in time to take part in spring drills last year, suffered a knee injury in the spring and did not play last season. - Tim May, The Columbus Dispatch
