Draft Scout Jeff Thomas News
01/29/19 - Jeff Thomas says he's returning to the Miami Hurricanes. The speedy wide receiver, who was dismissed by the Hurricanes in November and was transferring to Illinois, said in an Instagram post on Tuesday night that he's going back to Miami. The Hurricanes had no immediate comment, though new coach Manny Diaz tweeted out a game-action photo of Thomas shortly after the receiver's post. Thomas finished 2018 as Miami's leading receiver, with 35 catches for 563 yards and three touchdowns. His announcement came hours before quarterback Tate Martell posted on Twitter early Wednesday that he was headed to Miami. 12/22/18 - WR Jeff Thomas is transferring to Illinois. Thomas, who was dismissed from the Miami football program, plans to enroll at Illinois for the spring semester, Fighting Illini coach Lovie Smith said Friday on the school's official website. It will be a homecoming for Thomas, a native of East St. Louis, Ill., who was heavily recruited by Smith coming out of high school. Thomas will have to sit out the 2019 season, per NCAA transfer rules, but will have two years of eligibility remaining. At the time of his dismissal from Miami, Thomas was the Hurricanes' leading wide receiver with 35 receptions for 563 yards and three touchdowns.
11/21/18 - WR Jeff Thomas of the University of Miami, the Hurricanes' leading receiver this season, was dismissed from the team on Wednesday, the school announced.
There were rumors earlier in the week that Thomas had issues with the coaching staff and speculation on Wednesday morning indicated that Thomas might transfer, but a school spokesman said he was still with the team. The spokesman added that Thomas would not be at practice on Wednesday in order to take care of a personal matter. However, a short time later, the school announced that Thomas was no longer with the football program, but no reason for the dismissal was given. "We have high standards for excellence, for conduct and for the commitment to team for all of the young men who wear our uniform, and we will not waver from those standards," head coach Mark Richt said in a statement. "We wish Jeff the very best as he moves forward in his journey."
10/10/18 - WR Jeff Thomas has become a big-play guy for the Hurricanes both as a receiver and a returner. His 32-yard catch against Florida State put Miami in position for a go-ahead touchdown early in the fourth quarter, and he also had a 17-yard reception for a touchdown to bring the Hurricanes to within 27-21 in the third quarter. He has 16 catches for 396 yards and has a punt return of 48 yards and four kickoff runbacks for 152.
