Draft Scout Rodrigo Blankenship News
01/07/19 - Georgia kicker Rodrigo Blankenship says he'll be returning to the Bulldogs for his senior season. The specialist known for his thick glasses announced his decision on Twitter. He wrote, "I'm going to keep this short and sweet. Dawg Nation, I'M NOT GOING ANYWHERE." Blankenship decided not to follow the lead set by four teammates. Wide receivers Riley Ridley and Mecole Hardman, running back Elijah Holyfield and tight end Isaac Nauta entered the NFL draft last week. Also, backup quarterback Justin Fields is expected to transfer. Underclassmen have until Jan. 14 to declare their plans. Blankenship took over the kicking job in 2016, earned a scholarship and developed into one of the nation's most reliable weapons. This season, he connected on 19 of 23 field goals and all 65 extra points to finish with 122 points. - AP College Football

01/08/18 - Georgia kicker Rodrigo Blankenship knows he's getting more looks these days and he knows it's for more than just being a clutch kicker. "It's the glasses," Blankenship said simply at Saturday's media day for the college football's national championship game. Yes, those glasses. When he has them, he looks like he could play the role of a fourth Hanson brother in Slap Shot. But hockey is not Blankenship's sport, it's football _ and he's producing. Blankenship has hit 17 of 20 field goals this season, including two at the Rose Bowl in the dramatic 54-48 win over Oklahoma as the Bulldogs (13-1) advanced to the title game Monday night against Alabama (12-1).
Blankenship set the Rose Bowl record with his 55-yard field goal right before halftime with Georgia trailing by two touchdowns. He also had made his only kick in overtime from 38 yards out before Sony Michel's 27-yard run won the game in the second extra period. "I guess it would have been late last year that the specs picked up a little bit of traction," said Blankenship, then a non-scholarship player who was 14 of 18 on kicks in 2016. But Blankenship said he leaves most of the hype to his father, Ken, who calls or emails his son anytime there's a story about his son's glasses on the field. "He gets more caught up in the all the articles, the blogs and all that stuff," he said. - AP College Football
11/12/16 - Rodrigo Blankenship kicked two fourth-quarter field goals and Georgia's defense shut down No. 8 Auburn in the second half to beat the Tigers 13-7 on Saturday. The loss ends Auburn's Southeastern Conference championship hopes and knocks the Tigers out of consideration for a spot in the playoff. Auburn (7-3, 5-2 SEC, No. 9 CFP) had been in control of its hopes to win the SEC's Western Division, with one conference game remaining at No. 1 Alabama. Instead, Alabama clinched the division with Auburn's loss.
The Tigers couldn't overcome the loss of star running back Kamryn Pettway, the nation's No. 4 rusher who hurt his left leg on a long run in last week's win over Vanderbilt. Pettway was with the team but not in uniform. Auburn was held to 32 yards in the second half and 164 overall. Georgia (6-4, 4-4) earned its biggest win under first-year coach Kirby Smart. After Blankenship's 21-yard field goal with 2:25 remaining, Auburn was stopped on four downs, triggering a celebration in the stands and on Georgia's sideline. - AP Sports
