 Draft Scout Ito Smith News
01/02/18 - 2017 CONFERENCE USA FOOTBALL FIRST TEAM (COACHES): RB - Ito Smith, Sr., Southern Miss,...Smith made the league's second-team each of the previous two years, and will close out his Golden Eagle career in the bowl game as one of the program's all-time greats. He needs two rushing touchdowns to match the school's career record, and in the regular-season finale win at Marshall, he became the all-time leader in all-purpose yards. Smith had seven, 100-yard rushing games, including 150-plus in each of the final three games. - Southern Miss Football
12/27/17 - Most of the college football world might not realize just how good Southern Miss running back Ito Smith has been during his four-year career. With that in mind, Southern Miss coach Jay Hopson took a little time before the Independence Bowl to give his star player a plug. "I'm partial because I coach at Southern Miss, but to me, he's the best back in the country," Hopson said. "He's a guy that just comes to work every day and plays hard. He's got that special quality." The raw numbers certainly back up Hopson's high praise.

The 5-foot-9, 195-pound Smith is one of just 10 players in NCAA history to have at least 4,000 yards rushing and 1,000 yards receiving during his career. With one game remaining against Florida State on Wednesday, Smith has gained 4,446 yards on the ground and 1,420 through the air. His 6,344 all-purpose yards are the most in school history and he has run for at least 100 yards 23 times during his career. Smith has been a threat to score from anywhere on the field this season. He's run for touchdowns that went for 89, 80 and 65 yards. He also caught a pass that turned into an 84-yard touchdown. The four touchdowns of 65 yards or more are tied for the most in the nation this season. - AP College Football

11/11/17 - Kwadra Griggs completed 22 of 31 passes for 331 yards and three touchdowns and Ito Smith ran for 150 and two scores to propel Southern Mississippi to a 43-34 victory over Rice on Saturday. Smith now has 1,018 yards rushing this season and he also became the 10th player in FBS history to top 4,000 rushing yards and 1,000 receiving yards in a career. The win makes the Golden Eagles (6-4, 4-2 Conference USA) bowl eligible for a third straight season. Southern Miss used two Parker Shaunfield field goals and a 51-yard scoring strike from Griggs to Tim Jones to take a 13-0 lead early in the second quarter. But Rice (1-9, 1-5) continually fought back behind Nashon Ellerbe, who had 153 yards and four touchdowns on 22 carries. Twice Ellerbe had the Owls within two points on TD runs of 17 and 1 yards, but Southern Miss answered with Griggs' 47-yard TD strike to Robertson and Smith's 18-yard TD run with 2:55 to play preserving the win. - AP College Football
10/15/17 - Ito Smith ran for 120 yards and two touchdowns as Southern Miss captured its second straight Homecoming and recorded its first Conference-USA shutout since 2001, blanking Texas-El Paso 24-0 Saturday. But it was the Eagles' defense that shone brightest. Southern Miss (4-2, 2-1) held the Miners to just 147 total yards, including just 17 net yards on the ground. Keon Howard completed 16 of his 27 pass attempts for 221 yards and a touchdown, but he was picked off twice by UTEP (0-7, 0-3). Howard found Jaylond Adams with a 52-yard scoring pass midway through the first quarter to get the Eagles on the board and Smith found the end zone just before halftime to make it 14-0. Smith scored from 20-yards out in the fourth quarter to make it 21-0 and Parker Shaunfield kicked a 38-yard field goal late to account for the game's scoring. - AP College Football
10/09/17 - OCT 9 CONFERENCE USA OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Southern Miss senior RB Ito Smith posted his third-straight 100-yard rushing game in the Golden Eagles' 31-29 win at UTSA to give him 19 for his career, finishing with 178 yards on 17 carries and a 10.5 per rush average. He helped break open the game with an 89-yard scoring run up the middle in the third quarter, which ranks as the longest rushing touchdown from scrimmage in school history. With Saturday's performance, Smith moved into second place all-time in the school's career rushing yards mark and he currently has 3,736 for his career. He added two catches for 12 yards. Smith has scored in each of his last four games and has 499 rushing yards over that span. - Conference USA Football
