 Draft Scout Jaquan Johnson News
12/27/17 - Miami safety Jaquan Johnson grew tired of hearing other people talk about his future, and suggest that he should leave school early for the NFL. So he let them know their opinions didn't matter. He's coming back to Miami next season with eyes on competing for a national championship - and he thinks the final game of this season might be a springboard toward that goal. The Hurricanes (10-2) play Wisconsin (12-1) on Saturday in the Orange Bowl, in the capper of a season where Johnson became a breakout star for Miami. "I could sort of sense it in people's voice that they wanted me to just leave, but you know, I make my own decisions," Johnson said Wednesday. "My dad taught me that. My mom taught me that. And they tell me, make my decisions and live with it." And his decision? "I want to get my degree and play for a national championship," Johnson said. He's on target for the degree, and the Hurricanes - after about a decade of mediocrity - seem like they're getting closer to rejoining the ranks of the nation's elite programs. This is Miami's first trip to a New Year's Six bowl since going to the Peach Bowl in 2005, and if the Hurricanes beat the Badgers it'll be their first 11-win season since 2003. - AP College Football
12/02/17 - 2017 ALL-ACC FOOTBALL SECOND TEAM (COACHES/MEDIA): S Jaquan Johnson, Jr., Miami, 98 Votes,...Senior tight end Christopher Herndon IV, sophomore running back Travis Homer, junior defensive lineman RJ McIntosh, sophomore linebacker Shaq Quarterman, junior cornerback Michael Jackson and junior safety Jaquan Johnson were all named to the All-ACC Second Team. - Miami Football
11/20/17 - NOV 20 ACC DEFENSIVE BACK OF THE WEEK: Jaquan Johnson, Miami, Jr., S, 5-11, 190, Miami, Fla.,...Johnson earned his third consecutive ACC Defensive Back of the Week as he once again led the charge for the Hurricanes in the 44-28 win over Virginia. Johnson led Miami and tied for the game high with nine total tackles (four solo) and added his first career touchdown on an interception that he returned 30 yards to tie the game at 28 in the third quarter. Johnson, who added a solo sack in the victory, was one of just four defensive players named a Walter Camp Player of the Year Award semifinalist last week. - ACC Football
11/13/17 - NOV 13 ACC DEFENSIVE BACK OF THE WEEK: Jaquan Johnson, Miami, Jr., S, 5-11, 190, Miami, Fla.,...Johnson repeated as the ACC Defensive Back of the Week and earned Walter Camp National Defensive Player of the Week accolades after another standout performance as Miami topped Notre Dame, 41-8, at Hard Rock Stadium on Saturday night. Johnson led all Hurricanes with eight tackles (four solo) and wore the program's "turnover chain" yet again, this time on an interception of Notre Dame quarterback Brandon Wimbush early in the game. Johnson added one tackle for loss and broke up a pass. Johnson leads all Hurricanes with 66 tackles this season and has started every game. He ranks second on Miami's team with three interceptions. - ACC Football
11/13/17 - NOV 13 WALTER CAMP NATIONAL DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: JAQUAN JOHNSON, MIAMI, Junior, Defensive Back, Miami, FL/Miami Killian...Jaquan Jackson posted eight tackles, including one for loss, and added one interception and one pass deflection as 10th-ranked Miami defeated third-ranked Notre Dame, 41-8. With the win, Miami improved to 9-0. Notes: Jaquan Johnson is the third Miami player to earn Walter Camp National Player of the Week honors since 2004 (and second this season), joining quarterback Brock Berlin (Oct. 23, 2004) and linebacker Michael Pinckney, who was honored on Oct. 22, 2017. - The Walter Camp Football Foundation
