Draft Scout Kendall Hinton News
01/29/19 - Wake Forest says Kendall Hinton will return for his final season and is expected to play only at wide receiver. Coach Dave Clawson on Thursday announced that Hinton would be back for his redshirt senior season. Hinton played both receiver and quarterback last season, catching six passes for 61 yards. He also rushed for two scores in 2018. Hinton made four starts at quarterback from 2015-17 and received a medical redshirt for his injury-shortened 2016 season. He was suspended for three games before the 2018 season for violating team rules. Freshman Sam Hartman started the first nine games before suffering a season-ending leg injury, and redshirt sophomore Jamie Newman finished the season as the starter. - AP College Football
06/15/18 - QB Kendall Hinton was suspended for the first three games of the season due to unspecified team rules violations. Hinton was expected to open the season as the starter but will sit out games against Tulane, Towson and Boston College. Sophomore Jamie Newman and freshman Sam Hartman are the top candidates to replace Hinton. A redshirt junior, the 6-foot, 195-pound Hinton has appeared in 17 games over three seasons, including four starts. He has thrown for 1,502 yards with 10 touchdowns versus four interceptions.
08/14/17 - QB Kendall Hinton ended up taking a redshirt season in 2016 despite a promising stretch in the first couple of games before an injury. He entered the 2017 preseason camp atop the depth chart, although he's battling QB John Wolford for the first-string role for the second year in a row. The Demon Deacons know the benefits of Hinton winning the job, with the redshirt sophomore potentially holding that role for a few years. He has breakaway speed and shows a good knack when he's able to tuck the ball and run. He has made three career starts, including once last year before going out for the season with a knee injury in the third week.
11/08/16 - Wake Forest is shutting down quarterback Kendall Hinton for the season. Coach Dave Clawson said Tuesday that Hinton "tweaked" his knee again and won't play the rest of the year. Hinton has missed the last six games with a knee injury and Clawson says the school will apply for a medical redshirt for Hinton after his fourth year in 2018. Hinton ran for two touchdowns and averaged five yards per carry in three games, but sprained his left posterior cruciate ligament during a victory over Delaware in September. Before he was hurt, Hinton and third-year starter John Wolford formed a solid one-two punch at the position. 09/19/16 - Wake Forest QB Kendall Hinton will miss 2-4 weeks due to a sprained ligament in his left knee, the school said Monday.
Hinton was injured while making his second start of the season against Delaware on Saturday, and he is expected to miss at least the upcoming games against Indiana and North Carolina.
With Hinton out, Wake Forest will return to John Wolford, who opened the season as the starting quarterback.
Hinton completed 11 of 19 passes for 174 yards and one interception in three games for the Demon Deacons' run-based offense. He also has rushed for 125 yards and two touchdowns after rushing for 390 yards and seven touchdowns last season.
Wolford entered the game following Hinton's injury Saturday and completed 13 of 24 passes for 155 yards with a touchdown and an interception. --The Sports Xchange
