Draft Scout *Deionte Thompson News
02/11/19 - An assault charge was dismissed against Alabama safety and NFL top prospect Deionte Thompson, who was linked to a 2017 spring break fight in Texas. Prosecutors in Galveston County requested the charge be dropped against Thompson, an All-American who in January announced for the NFL draft. A judge signed the order Wednesday. Thompson was among four men indicted in October 2017 over the alleged beating of a man on Crystal Beach, near Galveston. Thompson and the three others are from Orange, about 100 miles northeast of Houston. Attorneys for Thompson have said he wasn't involved in the fight. Prosecutors cited new evidence in dropping the charge. Two men still face assault charges. The third man pleaded guilty last year to assault and was sentenced to one year in jail. - AP College Football
01/13/19 - All-America safety Deionte Thompson has joined a growing crowd of Alabama players leaving early for the NFL draft. Thompson announced his decision Sunday on Twitter. He's the sixth Crimson Tide underclassman to announce his decision to leave early. Thompson was a consensus All-American in his first season as the starter. He made 79 tackles and had two interceptions and four forced fumbles. Thompson, who has already graduated, says his experience at Alabama was "undeniably life-changing and an experience that I wouldn't trade for the world." He's widely projected as a potential first-round pick. Cornerback Saivion Smith announced Saturday that he's turning pro. A day earlier, left tackle Jonah Williams, defensive lineman Quinnen Williams, tailback Josh Jacobs and tight end Irv Smith Jr. all declared for the draft. AL.com's Mark Zenitz has also reported a source has released that Linebacker Mack Wilson is another potential Tide player to enter the NFL Draft. - AP College Football
04/25/17 - Alabama S Thompson turned himself into authorities...Alabama safety Deionte Thompson turned himself into authorities on Friday after an arrest warrant was issued in relation to a charge of felony aggravated assault in Texas. Thompson was excused from Friday's spring practice festivities by coach Nick Saban to "cooperate with law enforcement in this matter." Thompson is one of four people under suspicion in connection with an assault during spring break that left an 18-year-old man severely beaten. "Once we have a better understanding of what happened, we will make a determination as to what needs to be done in terms of the appropriate course of action moving forward," Saban said in a statement.
According to published reports, Noah Frillou was knocked unconscious and suffered a concussion and broken bones in his face, nose and eye sockets during the incident at Crystal Beach near Galveston. Thompson and three of his former West Orange-Stark High football teammates from West Orange, Texas are suspects in the beating. KBMT-TV in Beaumont, Texas identified the other suspects as Morris Joseph, Rufus Joseph and Daletredricc Wolfford. Thompson played in 14 games last season as a redshirt freshman and had eight tackles on special teams. - The Sports Xchange
