 Draft Scout *Tarvarus McFadden News
03/21/18 - Florida State Pro Day: While Derwin James and Josh Sweat were the headliners Tuesday, many were eager to see if McFadden would be able to improve upon the 4.67 electronically-timed 40-yard dash he posted in Indianapolis. McFadden did not initially know how he ran, only promising the assembled media afterward that "it was definitely better than what I ran at the Combine." Turns out, McFadden was right -- but only by a couple hundredths of a second -- according to a veteran scout who attended the event. This scout had the 6-2, 204-pound McFadden at 4.65 seconds Tuesday. Other stopwatches had McFadden in the 4.5s.

McFadden did look good in positional drills and caught the ball well, which perhaps isn't surprising given that he recorded eight interceptions in a splashy sophomore season in 2016. Last season, McFadden epitomized a Seminoles squad that barely qualified for a bowl game, intercepting zero passes as a junior and yet still opting to make the early jump to the NFL. McFadden's inconsistent technique and production (not to mention his disappointing straight-line speed) have the one-time projected first-round pick checking in as just a fourth- to fifth-round prospect. He is NFLDraftScout.com's No. 18-ranked cornerback. "I honestly don't think that running the 40 or all this testing makes you a better or worse football player," McFadden said. "Some people are just not good testers and some people are just blessed about testing. At the end of the day, you have to go out there and play. - Rob Rang, NFLDraftScout.com

03/06/18 - 2018 NFL Combine Question Marks: Tarvarus McFadden, CB, Florida State...Another disappointing Seminole prospect, McFadden produced quality numbers in the vertical (38.5 inches) and broad jump (10-feet-1), but cornerback is a stopwatch position and the 40-yard dash matters more than at any other position. And McFadden managed only 4.67 on Monday, confirming the concerns many evaluators had about his straight-line speed. A move to safety might be in his future -- based on his tape and the testing numbers. - Dane Brugler, NFLDraftScout.com
01/06/18 - Florida State cornerback Tarvarus McFadden and wide receiver Auden Tates are entering NFL draft. McFadden made his announcement via a statement released by the university. He was a first-team selection to the AP Preseason All-America team after having eight interceptions in 2016, but his production dropped off this season. He had no interceptions but his 10 passes defended were second on the team. They join safety Derwin James, tight end Ryan Izzo and defensive end Josh Sweat in leaving early. - AP College Football
12/12/17 - 2017 ALL-ACC FOOTBALL SECOND TEAM (COACHES/MEDIA): CB Tarvarus McFadden, Jr., Florida State, 59 Votes,...McFadden is an All-ACC performer for the second straight year. This season he has started all 11 games to push his consecutive starts streak to 24, tied for the most among Seminole defenders. The junior from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, has 27 tackles, including 19 solo stops, and seven pass breakups this season. His pass breakup total is second on the team behind only James. - Florida State Football
07/10/17 - 2017 Preseason Bednarik Award Watchlist: CB Tarvarus McFadden, Florida State,...McFadden, who is ranked No. 19 according to SI, burst into the national spotlight as the Jack Tatum Award winner, nabbing eight interceptions which tied for the most in the country in addition to ranking second in school history along with Monk Bonasorte (1979) and Curt Campbell (1951). McFadden took home First-Team All-America honors from the FWAA and Phil Steele after earning All-ACC First Team accolades from the media and coaches. He finished 2016 with 20 tackles, 3.0 TFL, six pass breakups and 14 passes defended. - Florida State Football
