Draft Scout Jonathan Ledbetter News
09/12/16 - DE Jonathan Ledbetter will miss his third consecutive game due to an offseason arrest as Georgia coach Kirby Smart said the sophomore will not play at Missouri.
Ledbetter had to miss at least two games per the Georgia Athletic Association policy following a DUI arrest in July, his second alcohol-related arrest this year, and could be suspended for up to six games. He was also arrested in March for underage consumption of alcohol and using a fake ID.
Asked Monday if Ledbetter would be available against Missouri, Smart simply replied, "No."
The 6-foot-4, 269-pound Ledbetter had four tackles while seeing action in seven games last season and was expected to have a significant role in the defensive line rotation this season.
07/10/16 - DE Jonathan Ledbetter was arrested and charged with DUI and underage possession following a traffic stop early Sunday morning.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution first reported that Ledbetter was booked at 6:05 a.m. and released on $2,000 bond at 10:24 a.m., according to the Athens-Clarke County jail website.
Ledbetter was already facing a likely one-game suspension for a pair of alcohol-related charges earlier this year that were dropped. He was arrested in March after attempting to get into a club with a fake ID and charged wiith underage possession of alcohol. The charges were dropped when the district attorney declined to press charges, believing the evidence would not stand up in court.
Bulldogs coach Kirby Smart had not publicly stated whether Ledbetter would serve the one-game suspension mandated by the Georgia student-athlete policy. The sophomore is now facing a mandatory two-game suspension for a DUI, per the school's drug and alcohol policy, but it remains to be seen how the March charges will factor into the mix.
Ledbetter is currently rated as the No. 10 defensive end prospect in the Class of 2019 by NFLDraftScout.com. He played in seven games as a reserve last season, finishing with four tackles and one quarterback hit. Ledbetter is in line for significant playing time this season, and has been expected to potentially compete for a starting job.
04/21/16 - Georgia sophomore defensive end Jonathan Ledbetter is facing a one-game suspension following his arrest on misdemeanor alcohol charges. Coach Kirby Smart says Ledbetter apologized to the team before taking part in Tuesday's practice. Smart says Ledbetter also faces internal discipline following the arrest on charges of underage possession of alcohol and possession of a false ID. Athens-Clarke County police records show Ledbetter was released on $3,000 bond at 4:13 a.m. on Sunday, about one hour after he was booked. Smart said after Tuesday's practice Ledbetter "made a huge mistake" and embarrassed himself, his family and his team. Ledbetter, who played in seven games as a backup in 2015, will miss the Bulldogs' Sept. 3 opener against North Carolina in the Georgia Dome. - AP Sports
