02/16/19 - (DT) - Chris Nelson, rSr, 6-1, 303
For newly graduated Texas players Chris Nelson and Andrew Beck, their journey to the NFL may not come with the perks of some higher-profile teammates, but they are putting in the necessary work to make that dream happen. Both went through two years in a bowl-less wilderness under former coach Charlie Strong before finishing their careers with a 17-10 turnaround that included a couple of bowl wins under Tom Herman. As their college careers fade to the background with hopes of making a living at this game, they're preparing for UT's pro timing day on March 27 while five former teammates will travel to Indianapolis for the NFL scouting combine on March 1. Nelson had a productive year at defensive tackle with 39 tackles, including 5.5 for loss, but he didn't get a combine invitation.

"From all the word I was getting coming off a great game at the Sugar Bowl and then the Senior Bowl, I was going," Nelson said. "The coaches were telling me they wanted to see me as a pass-rusher. They told me I had some great practices." Beck, a tight end who caught 28 passes for 281 yards and a pair of touchdowns, got a similar message from his conversations at the East-West Shrine game. But no invite to Indy. "I wasn't necessarily heartbroken about not going because I will be at Pro Day where a lot of the coaches will be attending," Beck said. "It's bittersweet because I wanted to go, but the good thing is I will have another month to prepare." - Austin American Statesman

01/29/19 - (QB) - Sam Ehlinger, So, 6-2, 235
Texas is set at quarterback with Sam Ehlinger, who had a breakout season in 2018. It is the depth chart behind him that has suddenly become a concern for coach Tom Herman as the wave of players exploring their options to move has reached the Longhorns. Experienced backup Shane Buechele entered the NCAA transfer database Thursday and could be playing somewhere else next season. Freshman Cameron Rising has left the team and plans to transfer. Another touted freshman backup, Casey Thompson, took to Twitter on Thursday to knock down a report that he'd told the team he'll be back next season and said he hasn't made up his mind. - AP College Football

01/08/19 - (WR) - *LilJordan Humphrey, Jr, 6-4, 225
Junior wide receiver Lil'Jordan Humphrey announced on Tuesday afternoon that he will forgo his senior season and declare for the 2019 NFL Draft. Humphrey finished his junior season with 86 catches for 1,176 yards and nine touchdowns. His 86 catches were fifth-most in school history, his 1,176 yards were third-most and his nine touchdowns were tied for seventh. For his career, he totaled 125 receptions for 1,622 yards and 10 touchdowns. His 125 receptions finish tied for 10th-most in school history, while his 1,622 yards finish just outside the Top 10. - Texas Football

11/24/18 - (QB) - Sam Ehlinger, So, 6-2, 235
Sam Ehlinger and No. 11 Texas made enough plays to put away Kansas. Next up is a much bigger challenge. Ehlinger threw for two touchdowns and ran for a score, and the Longhorns beat the Jayhawks 24-17 on Friday to clinch a spot in the Big 12 title game. Texas (9-3, 7-2, No. 15 CFP) opened a 24-7 lead on Cameron Dicker's 34-yard field goal in the fourth quarter, but Kansas responded with Peyton Bender's 31-yard touchdown pass to Daylon Charlot and recovered the ensuing onside kick. After Gabriel Rui made it a one-score game with a 45-yard field goal with 1:37 remaining, the Jayhawks (3-9, 1-8) were unable to recover another onside kick and the Longhorns closed it out from there. "We treated this game like a semifinal, if you will, win and advance," coach Tom Herman said. "And our guys found a way to win and advance." Tre Watson finished with 79 yards on 14 carries as Texas earned its third consecutive victory. The Longhorns will face No. 6 Oklahoma in the Big 12 championship next Saturday. "We put a little cushion out for us there towards the end, but we knew they weren't going away," Herman said. - AP College Football

11/19/18 - (QB) - Sam Ehlinger, So, 6-2, 235
QB Sam Ehlinger is questionable for Friday's game at Kansas after he aggravated his AC joint in his right (throwing) shoulder on Saturday. Head coach Tom Herman said Ehlinger would not throw on Monday, but he might be able to throw on Tuesday. If Ehlinger cannot play this weekend, Shane Buechele will be the Longhorns' quarterback.

11/18/18 - (QB) - Sam Ehlinger, So, 6-2, 235
Sam Ehlinger ran for a touchdown and passed for another before leaving with a shoulder injury, and No. 13 Texas smothered Iowa State freshman quarterback Brock Purdy in a 24-10 victory Saturday night that pushed the Longhorns closer to a berth in the Big 12 championship game. Texas (8-3, 6-2, No. 15 CFP) is in second place in the Big 12 and on track to play in the league title game if it wins at Kansas next week. Texas hasn't won the Big 12 since 2009. Texas had given up 114 points and 1,675 yards in its previous three games. The Longhorns allowed Iowa State just 224 total yards.

Shane Buechele took over for Ehlinger after halftime and his 27-yard touchdown pass to Lil'Jordan Humphrey with 36 seconds left in the third quarter put the game out of reach. Buechele was 10 of 10 for 89 yards. The Texas defense played its best game in weeks with a mix of blitzes that chased Iowa State freshman quarterback Brock Purdy all night. The No. 18 Cyclones (6-4, 5-3, No. 16 CFP) also played the first half without running back David Montgomery, who was suspended for throwing a punch against Baylor a week earlier. Purdy had led the Cyclones to five consecutive wins since taking over the offense, but was under constant pressure and was sacked five times. He finished with 130 yards on 10 of 23 passing. - AP College Football

11/12/18 - (WR) - *LilJordan Humphrey, Jr, 6-4, 225
NOV 12 BIG 12 OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Lil'Jordan Humphrey, WR, Jr., Texas,...Humphrey caught a game-winning, 29-yard touchdown pass with 21 seconds left to lift the Longhorns to a 41-34 road victory in Lubbock. The junior finished with eight catches for a career-high 159 yards and two touchdowns, becoming the first Longhorn with 100-yard back-to-back games since 2012. - Big 12 football

11/12/18 - (CB) - Davante Davis, Sr, 6-1, 205
NOV 12 BIG 12 CO-DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Davante Davis, DB, Sr., Texas,...Davis stymied a pair of Texas Tech drives in the red zone with an interception at the goal line and a forced fumble and fumble recovery to prevent a Red Raider score. Davis totaled five tackles and two TFLs in the win. - Big 12 football

11/12/18 - (K) - Cameron Dicker, Fr, 6-0, 205
NOV 12 BIG 12 SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Cameron Dicker, K, Fr., Texas,...The freshman Dicker connected on a 52-yard field goal in the second quarter at Texas Tech, marking the longest for a Longhorn since 2015. He also converted a 46-yard field goal in the contest. - Big 12 football

11/11/18 - (QB) - Sam Ehlinger, So, 6-2, 235
Sam Ehlinger had gotten No. 15 Texas down the field with some nifty runs. The sophomore quarterback then took a shot at the end zone and got the winning pass. Lil'Jordan Humphrey outleaped a defender inside the 5 and then pulled him along to the end zone for a 29-yard touchdown with 21 seconds left, giving the Longhorns a 41-34 victory over Texas Tech after blowing a 17-point lead in the fourth quarter. "I have so much confidence in him," Ehlinger said. "He's as good a jump ball guy as there is in the country. We're already in field goal range," Longhorns coach Tom Herman said. "If we get one-on-one coverage, we're going to try for the win." With Ehlinger's fourth TD pass, and second to Humphrey, the Longhorns (7-3, 5-2 Big 12) snapped a two-game skid that had cost them the Big 12 lead. They stayed a game behind co-leaders No. 6 Oklahoma and No. 7 West Virginia with two games left to determine who plays in the conference championship game Dec. 1. Next up for the Longhorns is No. 23 Iowa State, the team they are tied with for third place. - AP College Football

11/05/18 - (FS) - Brandon Jones, Jr, 6-0, 205
DB Brandon Jones, who reinjured his ankle at the team hotel prior to the West Virginia game in what coach Tom Herman keeps calling "a freak deal," is doing everything he can to try to get back. "But if we played today, Brandon would not play," the coach said Monday. "We're hoping he takes a turn for the better here in the coming days."

10/29/18 - (OLB) - Malcolm Roach, Jr, 6-3, 270
LB Malcolm Roach, whom coach Tom Herman earlier his season said would miss the rest of the year with a broken foot, could be back for this week's game and is expected to play next week against Texas Tech.

10/14/18 - (QB) - Sam Ehlinger, So, 6-2, 235
Follow-up tests Sunday confirmed Texas quarterback Sam Ehlinger has a sprained throwing shoulder. Ehlinger left the Longhorns' 23-17 win over Baylor on Saturday on Texas' first possession of the game and did not return. He had taken a couple of hits on runs on the Longhorns' opening drive. Shane Buechele passed for 184 yards and a touchdown to lead Texas to the win. Texas officials said an MRI exam confirmed the initial sprain diagnosis. Ehlinger will rest his shoulder this week as No. 7 Texas (6-1, 4-0 Big 12) has an open date and doesn't play again until Oct. 27 at Oklahoma State. Ehlinger has passed for 1,534 yards and 11 touchdowns and rushed for 230 yards and six touchdowns while taken every snap of the season until he got hurt. He hasn't thrown an interception in his last 168 pass attempts, a school record. - AP College Football

10/13/18 - (QB) - Sam Ehlinger, So, 6-2, 235
QB Sam Ehlinger sustained an injury to his throwing shoulder during Saturday's game against Baylor. Ehlinger, who has completed 65.3 percent of his passes with 11 touchdowns and two interceptions this season, was forced to leave the game early in the first quarter because he was bleeding. He jogged to the locker room and returned to the sideline in the second quarter with what appeared to be a bandage on his left hand but the school said it was a shoulder injury.

10/09/18 - (WR) - *LilJordan Humphrey, Jr, 6-4, 225
WR Lil'Jordan Humphrey caught a career-high nine passes for a career-high 133 yards and a touchdown in the OU game. He now has 981 career receiving yards. It was Humphrey's third career 100-yard game. He also threw his first career touchdown pass on the Longhorns' opening drive, connecting with WR Collin Johnson.

10/09/18 - (QB) - Sam Ehlinger, So, 6-2, 235
QB Sam Ehlinger had his sixth-straight 200-yard game to open the season, joining Colt McCoy (8, 2007), Major Applewhite (11, 1999), and Peter Gardere (7, 1992) as the only other QBs to do that in school history. Ehlinger has passed for at least 200 yards in all 12 career starts. It was his second career 300-yard game. His 12th career 200-yard game ties him with Vince Young for seventh-most in school history.

10/08/18 - (QB) - Sam Ehlinger, So, 6-2, 235
OCT 8 BIG 12 OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Sam Ehlinger, QB, So., Texas,...Ehlinger totaled 386 yards (314 pass/72 rush) and five touchdowns in leading the Longhorns to a 48-45 win over No. 7 Oklahoma. The first-time honoree's 386 total yards were the second-most against OU in the Red River Showdown. On Sunday, Ehlinger was named the National Offensive Player of the Week by the Walter Camp Football Foundation. - Big 12 Football

10/08/18 - (K) - Cameron Dicker, Fr, 6-0, 205
OCT 8 BIG 12 SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYERS OF THE WEEK: Cameron Dicker, K, Fr., Texas,...Dicker, the UT freshman, nailed a 40-yard field goal with nine seconds remaining to lift the Longhorns to a 48-45 win over No. 7 Oklahoma. He connected on two field goals and six PATs in the victory for his first weekly accolade. - Big 12 Football

10/08/18 - (QB) - Sam Ehlinger, So, 6-2, 235
OCT 8 WALTER CAMP NATIONAL FBS OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: SAM EHLINGER, TEXAS, Sophomore, Quarterback, Austin, TX/Westlake...Sam Ehlinger accounted for five touchdowns (2 passing, 3 rushing) as 19th-ranked Texas defeated 7th-ranked Oklahoma, 48-45, in the AT&T Red River Showdown. Ehlinger passed for 314 yards (24-of-35) and two touchdowns, and rushed for 72 yards and three more scores as the Longhorns improved to 5-1, 3-0 in the Big 12. Notes: Sam Erlinger is the eighth Longhorn to receive Walter Camp National Player of the Week honors since 2004, and the first since linebacker Malik Jefferson (Oct. 11, 2015). - The Walter Camp Football Foundation

10/06/18 - (QB) - Sam Ehlinger, So, 6-2, 235
Texas quarterback Sam Ehlinger flashed the "Hook 'Em Horns" sign to the ecstatic burnt orange end of the stadium after his third rushing touchdown, and soon after that threw his second scoring pass. A year after briefly putting the Longhorns ahead late in their Red River rivalry game against Oklahoma when he started as a freshman, Ehlinger had Texas ahead by three touchdowns going to the fourth quarter Saturday. But Ehlinger still needed one more drive to win the game, and delivered, setting up freshman Cameron Dicker's 40-yard field goal with nine seconds left to give 19th-ranked Texas a 48-45 victory over the No. 7 Sooners after Kyler Murray had rallied them with three touchdowns in a six-minute span.

"The first three quarters were very impressive. But maybe that last drive was the most impressive to me because when we had really given up a lot of the energy and certainly in a tie ballgame, to let them back in," Texas coach Tom Herman said of Ehlinger. "For him to go shut the door, with his teammates, that says a lot about his grit." Ehlinger was 24-of-35 passing for 314 yards, and ran 19 times for 72 yards. He converted third-and-3 on Texas' final drive with a 4-yard keeper and his 8-yard draw to the middle of the field set up the winning kick in the highest-scoring game in the 113-game series. "I still can't put to words how incredible this rivalry and to be able to be a part of it, I honestly can't," Ehlinger said. - AP College Football

10/01/18 - (WR) - DShawn Jamison, Fr, 5-10, 180
OCT 1 BIG 12 SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYERS OF THE WEEK: D'Shawn Jamison, WR, Fr., Texas,...Jamison returned a punt 90-yards for his first career touchdown to give Texas a lead in the first quarter at K-State. The accolade was also the first for Jamison. - Big 12 Football

09/29/18 - (QB) - Sam Ehlinger, So, 6-2, 235
Sam Ehlinger threw for 207 yards and a touchdown, D'Shawn Jamison returned a punt 90 yards for another score and No. 18 Texas held off Kansas State 19-14 on Saturday to snap a five-game road losing streak to the Wildcats. Keaontay Ingram churned for a first down with less than three minutes to go, allowing the red-hot Longhorns (4-1, 2-0 Big 12) to run out the clock after blowing much of a 19-0 halftime lead. Skylar Thompson threw for 96 yards in relief of ineffective quarterback Alex Delton, and he led the Wildcats (2-3, 0-2) to a pair of touchdowns in the second half. But after they got the ball back with 7:12 to go, Thompson threw a pair of incompletions as Kansas State went three-and-out, and coach Bill Snyder's offense never got another opportunity with the ball. The Longhorns leaned on their defense in the opening half, getting a pair of sacks by Charles Omenihu one for a safety while shutting down Kansas State's powerful run game. - AP College Football

09/24/18 - (SS) - Caden Sterns, Fr, 5-11, 205
SEPT 24 BIG 12 NEWCOMER OF THE WEEK: Caden Sterns, DB, Fr., Texas,...Sterns registered five tackles and 2 INTs in UT's 31-16 victory over No. 17 TCU. He became the first Longhorn true freshman to record two interceptions in a game since 2015. The honor is the first for Sterns. - Big 12 Football

09/24/18 - (OLB) - Gary Johnson, Sr, 6-0, 230
SEPT 17 BIG 12 DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Gary Johnson, LB, Sr., Texas,...Johnson led the Longhorn defense with six tackles, four tackles for loss, a sack, a forced fumble and a QB hurry in Texas' 37-14 win over No. 22 USC. The weekly accolade was the second for Johnson. - Big 12 Football

09/17/18 - (C) - Zach Shackelford, Jr, 6-3, 305
C Zach Shackelford would be listed as doubtful to play against TCU, but coach Tom Herman said Shackelford is working his way back from a foot injury. "He's still having some pain but he's going to try," the coach explained. "What that means I don't know yet. If we had to play today, he certainly could not play."
