  Draft Scout by Conference

The Sacramento State football team will have its season continue as it earned its first berth in to the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision playoffs. The Hornets received the fourth seed and will face the winner of Austin Peay and Furman on Saturday, Dec. 7, at Hornet Stadium at 6 p.m. Sacramento State finished the regular season with a 9-3 overall record and tied for the Big Sky Conference title with a 7-1 mark. Both records were the best in school history. The Hornets capped the regular season with a 27-17 win over UC Davis as the team won seven of their final eight games. The Big Sky Conference had four of the top six seeds with Weber State coming in at No. 3, Montana State at No. 5 and Montana at No. 6. If Sacramento State and Montana State both win, it would set up a rematch between the teams in the quarterfinals.

The Hornets last played in the postseason in 1988 as part of the NCAA Div. II playoffs. That year, Sacramento State defeated UC Davis in the first round, knocked off North Carolina Central in the second round before falling at North Dakota State in the semifnals. Sacramento State also moved up to No. 3 in the final STATS FCS Top 25 of the regular season. The team has now been ranked for seven consecutive weeks and the No. 3 ranking is the highest in program history. - Sacramento State Football
