Auburn's cornerbacks room will have to replace another early-round NFL Draft pick this fall. That has become a near-yearly ask of this position, as the Tigers have continued to churn out NFL talent in the secondary - from Carlton Davis and Jamel Dean to Noah Igbinoghene and most recently Roger McCreary, the All-American who held down the top corner spot for Auburn the last two seasons. McCreary's departure leaves a big hole to fill for Auburn, but with a trio of experienced corners back in the fold, as well as a key spring transfer addition, the unit will try to keep pace in its second year under defensive backs coach Zac Etheridge.

Not only did Auburn lose McCreary to the NFL, but the Tigers' secondary was arguably the hardest-hit position group when it came to the transfer portal after last season. Auburn saw Ladarius Tennison (a key rotation piece at nickel), Dreshun Miller (a former West Virginia standout), Ro Torrence and Eric Reed Jr. all transfer out of the program. That left Auburn a little thin at cornerback this offseason - and the Tigers' pursuit of Jacksonville State transfer Malik Feaster late last month before he committed to Florida State only further supported the belief that the program could bolster its depth there. Still, Auburn should feel confident in what it has in its cornerback room, especially with the pieces that return from last season: Nehemiah Pritchett, Jaylin Simpson and Donovan Kaufman. - Birmingham News
