Yes, John Rhys Plumlee thought about it. Of course Plumlee considered the transfer portal. The list of quarterbacks in recent years who lost their starting jobs and stayed put is small. Plumlee could have been the next Jalen Hurts or Jacob Eason or Kelly Bryant and traded in his Ole Miss uniform for one where he could replicate his 1,000-yard rushing season from behind center in 2019.

Ultimately, Plumlee thought better of the portal. "To say that it didn't cross my mind, I'd be lying to you," Plumlee said. "But I love Ole Miss. I've started something pretty good here with my friends and family that love Ole Miss. The people here, the atmosphere here at Ole Miss, the baseball aspect of it, a lot went into it. But I feel really blessed to be at Ole Miss. So I'm happy that I stayed." That staying power has transcended the piano-playing, Train-singing quarterback who moonlights as an outfielder in the spring into a wide receiver. Plumlee's transition to receiver began prior to the Outback Bowl last season. He had about a week to learn the position. Raw as he was, he caught five passes for 73 yards, including two crucial hauls on the Rebels' go-ahead fourth quarter drive to help seal the victory. - The Clarion Ledger
