  09/16/20 - RB Chris Evans, rSr/2021, Michigan

  Chris Evans described a turbulent nine months as mentally draining, not knowing whether he would be accepted back at the University of Michigan. The junior running back - one who played a prominent role on the Wolverines' offense during the 2017 and 2018 seasons - had been suspended academically by the university in February. While the reason has not been shared publicly, the punishment was severe. Not only was Evans sidelined from the team, he was no longer on scholarship. Money for rent and food began drying up. "I was just sticking to what I know and grinding all the time," Evans said recently.

But instead of returning home to Indianapolis, Evans made the choice to stay in Ann Arbor and prove that he was willing to right what went wrong. He worked three jobs: As an assistant to an area carpenter in the morning; painting houses, rolling carpet and installing dry wall. Once the clock struck noon, he moved on to Ahmo's Gyros & Deli in Ann Arbor, where he delivered orders, took orders and worked the register and washed dishes. "Literally, unbelievably humble," store owner Majdi Issa told MLive. "Brings a light to the door with him. He became friends with everybody in the store. He was there for people, some of the employees that had some personal issues in his life, just to be there the shoulder to cry on and (provide) some comfort." - Ann Arbor News
