Michigan graduate transfer Stephen Spanellis, an offensive lineman, has opted out of Vanderbilt's 2020 season, coach Derek Mason said Tuesday. And the Commodores' quarterback competition could be impacted by two players being quarantined due to COVID-19. Spanellis is the sixth Vanderbilt player to opt out, including some that indicated concerns over COVID-19 on social media. Linebacker Dimitri Moore, one of those six, opted back into the season last week. Other players who have opted out include placekicker Oren Milstein and offensive linemen Cole Clemens, Bryce Bailey and Jonathan Stewart. Mason said he doesn't anticipate anymore players opting out, but added "a student-athlete can opt out at any time." Spanellis, a 6-foot-5, 300-pounder, played in 37 games in three seasons in his Michigan career. He mostly played on special teams but served as a reserve offensive lineman in 14 games. - The Tennessean
