Erik Ezukanma last year put together the best season statistically by a Texas Tech freshman wide receiver in the past decade. He might not have been sensational right from the start, and in fact he wasn't, but over the second half of the season it was plain to see why Tech coach Matt Wells started raving about Ezukanma months before. The talent is there, and Ezukanma began to assert himself more and more as the year went on. Now he's been involved in enough college football to know what his next step needs to be. "Being more aggressive as a receiver," Ezukanma said recently. "DBs, they're going to grab you, they're going to hold you, but you've got to be aggressive. You've got to knock them off you. You've got to be a dog on the field. I gain all this weight; I've got to use it."

The 6-foot-3 sophomore from Keller Timber Creek is up to 213 pounds, more than 30 pounds heavier than when he first arrived on campus in 2018. That's after what Wells recently called the Red Raiders' "first real off-season of real lifting and conditioning and things that we do" under strength and conditioning coach Dave Scholz. Ezukanma has gotten bigger while remaining trim and sculpted. "I feel a lot more lean," he said. "I feel like I can run a lot faster. We've been working on speed in the off-season, so I feel like I'm a lot faster now than what I was." - Lubbock Avalanche Journal
