  Continued to be a leader on the offense and further made his marks on the Idaho record books ... threw for the fifth-highest single-game total in school history with 476 yards against New Mexico State ... is now one of three players to have 12 or more games of 300+ yards in school history ... on the career records list, he is third in completion percentage (.611); fourth in average per game (248.5) and passes completed (724); fifth in attempts (1,184) and yards (8,696), and sixth in touchdown passes (46) .... his single-season totals for 2016 were sixth in completions (257), seventh in yards (3,184) and tied for 10th in completion percentage (.619) ... his four touchdown passes in the Vandals’ Famous Idaho Potato Bowl victory tied for third-best single game in school history ... he was chosen Most Valuable Player of the Game and was a second-team all-Sun Belt Conference choice ... he finished first in passing yards (3,184); second in pass efficiency (136.7) and passing touchdowns (19); third in the conference in completion percentage (.619), points responsible for (140), points responsible for per game (10.8), yards per pass attempt (7.67) and passing yards per game (244.9); fourth in passing yards per completion (12.39) and total offense per game (257.8), and fifth in completions per game (19.77).

  Had one of the best seasons among FBS quarterbacks ... led the Sun Belt in completion percentage (.634), which was 29th nationally ... additionally was ranked second in the Sun Belt in completions per game with 22.55 (19th nationally), total passing yards with 2,992 (34th nationally), passing yards per game with 272.0 (24th nationally) and total offense with 293.3 yards per game (21st nationally) ... he also was third in the league in passing yards per attempt (7.65) and fourth in pass efficiency (135.6) ... his total passing yards are fourth best in the past two decades among Vandal quarterbacks with only Nate Enderle (3,314 in 2010), John Welsh (3,171 in 2000) and Ryan Fien (3,674 in 1996) have higher totals ... his 36 completions versus Ohio University tie for third highest for a single-game in school history ... he moved among the top single-season performers in completions (246, seventh), yards (2,972, 10th) and completion percentage (.631, fourth) ... among Idaho’s all-time career leaders, he is eighth in completions (467), 10th in passing yards (4,451), third in average per game (247.3) and fourth in completion percentage (.607) ... he moved into a fifth-place tie with Nate Enderle for most games of 300 or more passing yards (both have nine) ... he is eighth in career total offense yards (5,537) and fourth in career total offense per game (251.68).

 2014 Season

  Had one of the best freshman seasons in school history ... played in all 11 games and started 10 ... had four games of more than 300 yards passing and finished with 2,540 passing yards ... his 56 passing attempts at Ohio University are the most by a freshman in school history and tie for eighth-highest all-time ... his 33 completions – twice (at Texas State and at Ohio University) also are the most by a Vandal freshman quarterback and his 381 single-game yards are second-best by an Idaho freshman (Nate Enderle had 423) ... he completed 58.3 percent (221 of 379) of his passes and had 11 TD throws.

 High School

  Linehan follows in the footsteps of his father, Scott, as a Vandal quarterback. Linehan, a multi-sport athlete, was honored as a blue chip player by the Detroit News after leading St. Mary’s to the state championship game. An all-league selection, he threw for 1,500 yards as St. Mary’s captured the Catholic League title. He also was a key member of St. Mary’s Class A regional basketball championship during his junior year and scored 28 points in one game.

 Personal

  He is the son of Scott, an assistant for the Dallas Cowboys and a stellar player at Idaho, and Kristen Linehan. His brother Mike joined the Vandals in 2015. His uncles also played for the Vandals ... born Nov. 13, 1994.

11/07/17 - The son of longtime NFL coach Scott Linehan, Idaho fifth-year senior QB Matt Linehan (6-2, 230, 4.93, #10) suffered an injury to his throwing hand on Saturday and is expected to miss playing time. 10/30/17 - OCT 30 SUN BELT OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Matt Linehan, Idaho (Sr., QB)...Guided Idaho's breakout offensive performance, completing 28-of-42 passes for 360 yards and three touchdowns, as the Vandals defeated ULM 31-23...posted season highs in completions, attempts and yards, and matched season best for touchdowns...360 passing yards are the fourth most in a game in Linehan's career and mark his 13th game with at least 300 yards through the air...connected with eight different receivers...moved up to No. 3 in Sun Belt history for career passing yards (10,490). - Sun Belt Football
09/24/17 - Isaiah Saunders' 2-yard touchdown run finally gave Idaho a much-delayed 29-23 double-overtime victory over South Alabama on Saturday night in a game that saw two weather delays. The game lasted almost seven hours with the first weather delay lasting over two hours (2:27) in this Sun Belt Conference opener. Idaho's Matt Linehan threw for 273 yards with Alfonso Onunwor grabbing eight catches for 119 yards and a score. Onunwor pulled in a pass from over his right shoulder in the left corner of the end zone as the Vandals charged back to tie the game 20-20 with only 13 seconds remaining. The teams traded field goals in the first extra period. South Alabama's (1-3, 0-1) Gavin Patterson missed a 43-yard field goal to start the second overtime, leaving the door open for Saunders. The Vandals (2-2, 1-0) were 61 yards from the end zone with 90 seconds remaining when Linehan went to work, driving Idaho for the tying score in regulation. - AP College Football
09/01/17 - Aaron Duckworth rolled up 191 all-purpose yards and Matt Linehan threw for two touchdowns as Idaho opened the season with a 28-6 victory over Sacramento State on Thursday night. Duckworth finished with 142 yards rushing and 49 receiving while Linehan was 14 of 19 for 163 yards, but also threw two interceptions. Idaho had only 24 yards offense in the first quarter but finished with 356 in running its win streak to six, its longest since 1994. The Vandals scored twice for a 14-6 halftime lead, though it turned the ball over three times and its rebuilt offensive line gave up all four Hornets sacks during the half. Linehan threw 8 yards to Jacob Sannon for the Vandals' first touchdown, finishing a drive that included a 49-yard pass play to Duckworth. On Idaho's next drive, Linehan threw a 35-yard score to Reuben Mwehla. - AP College Football
