 Jonathan Haden, Alabama-Birmingham, Player News

Jonathan Haden is a scrapper. The redshirt senior, listed at a generous 5-foot-7, was poised for an increased role for the UAB football team after a solid 2017 season, but the Arizona transfer suffered an injury in the final home practice before the Blazers left the country for the Bahamas Bowl. Thus began an almost two-year journey as Haden recovered from surgery, sat out the 2018 season and made the move to his natural position at running back before entering spring practice back in February. Then, almost suddenly as it happened a year prior, another injury - albeit minor - cut short Haden's progress resulting in his absence from the spring game.

"It's a long season and offseason, people get hurt," Haden said. "Things happen and you got to work through it." Haden now enters the 2019 season with high expectations from the coaching staff. "He's dynamic," UAB coach Bill Clark said. "One of the things we felt like when he first got here, he was probably a little heavier and bulked a little bit than we wanted him. Had the injury and then has come back as kind of the person we were looking for. Looks good and is in great shape, and he's just dynamic with the ball in his hands." - Birmingham Post Herald
