Divaad Wilson, Central Florida, Player News

When the NCAA transfer portal opened this week, a flurry of Knights decided to enter it. But not UCF safety Divaad Wilson. Wilson is leaving the Knights, too, but he declared for the 2023 NFL Draft on Wednesday. Wilson is the first player for the Knights to decide to turn pro following this season in hopes of getting selected in April's draft. Wilson began his college career at Georgia before transferring to UCF ahead of the 2020 season.

The redshirt senior and Miami native still had one year of eligibility remaining because of the extra season granted to athletes by the NCAA due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but Wilson set his eyes on the next level. "I would like to thank the coaches, athletic trainers, medical staff and everyone in the football facilities of both the University of Georgia and University of Central Florida for helping [me] become the man I am today," he wrote. "You all motivated me to give my very best on and off the field." Last season, Wilson played in all 13 regular season games, starting 12 times at safety. Earning second-team all-AAC from coaches, he recorded 2 interceptions and finished fourth on the team with 72 tackles. Wilson's productivity fell slightly this year for the Knights, but he still found a way to force turnovers. - Orlando Sentinel

He earned second-team all-American Athletic Conference recognition last season by vote of league coaches. From Miami, Florida (Northwestern High School), Wilson was named to Athlon Sports' all-AAC second team on a preseason basis for 2022. - UCF Football

Defensive back Divaad Wilson, who started two games as a redshirt freshman last season for Georgia, is leaving the school to return closer to his home in Miami, he announced Monday on Twitter. Wilson said he's going in the transfer portal to seek a new school where he can play. The 6-foot, 195-pound Wilson started at the nickel back position against Notre Dame and Kentucky last season, making his first college interception against the Fighting Irish. He played in 13 games total last season but was among the more than a dozen players who missed the Sugar Bowl. Wilson had 24 tackles and one pass break up last season after debuting in the Sugar Bowl against Texas at the end of the 2018 season. He sustained a torn ACL early in spring practice that year after enrolling early out of Miami Northwestern High School as a four-star recruit. - Athens Daily Banner
