2020 NFL COMBINE INVITE: Anthony Gordon, QB, Washington State,...Gordon was named a Davey O'Brien Award Semifinalist (Nation's Top QB) and to the All-Pac-12 Second Team after leading the country in passing yards/g (429.2), 300-yard games (12), 400-yard games (9) and was second in passing TD (48) passing yards (5,579). The redshirt-senior went 493-of-687 for 5,579 yards and 48 touchdowns, setting WSU and Pac-12 single-season records for passing TD, passing yards, total offense (5,559) and completions (493). Gordon was a three-time Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week (New Mexico State, at Houston, Stanford), recorded three of the top four single-game passing performances in the country in 2019 (1st - 606 vs. Oregon State, 2nd - 570 vs UCLA, 4th - 520 vs. Stanford) and led the country with 222 completions of 10+ yards while 16 of passing touchdowns went for 20+ yards. - Washington State Football

Washington State quarterback Anthony Gordon led the North to three touchdowns in the third quarter in a 31-17 victory over the South in the Senior Bowl on Saturday. The Cougars' prolific passer entered the all-star game for senior NFL prospects after halftime and twice took the North downfield. He was sporting the No. 3 jersey in honor of late Washington State quarterback Tyler Hilinski. Gordon, who finished second nationally in passing yards and touchdowns, completed 8 of 12 passes for 69 yards and two short touchdowns. That included a 2-yard touchdown pass to Notre Dame's Chase Claypool for a second straight big third-down completion. An off-balance Gordon then hit Liberty's Antonio Gandy-Golden late in the third for a 5-yard TD. It was set up with an interception by Troy Pride Jr. of Notre Dame.

The game's most highly touted passer, Justin Herbert of Oregon, shined for the South. The likely first-round pick was 9- of 12 for 83 yards and a touchdown, all in the first quarter, and added a 19-yard run. Michigan's Shea Patterson delivered the game's biggest offensive play and passed for 131 yards. He opened the second quarter with a 75-yard touchdown pass on his first play. TCU running back Darius Anderson was wide open on a wheel route and sprinted down the left sideline. Anderson had just 128 yards receiving last season, but had 87 in this one to go with 43 rushing yards. The North's Joshua Kelley of UCLA had a game-high 105 yards on 15 rushes. The game featured two-minute drives to end each quarter. - AP College Football

Washington State's Gordon was offered his No. 18 for the Senior Bowl. Instead, he requested jersey No. 3, a number worn by former Cougars quarterback Tyler Hilinski, who took his own life on Jan. 16, 2018. "The Hilinskis, God bless them, they allowed me to wear it and I'm honored to wear it," Gordon said. Senior Bowl executive director Jim Nagy said early this week that the family would attend the game at Ladd-Peebles Stadium. - AP College Football

His top six games, with number of completions: 41, 44, 44, 45, 48, 50. Texas Tech's Jett Duffey and Alan Bowman are the only other quarterbacks to complete 40 in a game. - AP College Football

Massive passing numbers in Mike Leach's "Air Raid" offense are the norm. Washington State's Anthony Gordon went above and beyond with his most recent performance. Gordon, who owns three of the top four games for yards passing this season and six of the top 21, set national season highs with 50 completions, 70 attempts and a career-high 606 yards passing against Oregon State on Saturday. It was the most completions since Gardner Minshew had 52 against Houston in 2017. Minshew was a graduate transfer at - where else? - Washington State last season. No one had attempted as many passes in a game since Dwayne Haskins Jr. of Ohio State slung it 73 times against Purdue last year. The yards passing were the most since Patrick Mahomes of Texas Tech threw for 734 against Oklahoma in 2016. Gordon also set a couple Pac-12 season records in the 54-53 win over the Beavers. His six touchdown passes increased his total to 45. His yardage total is 4,920, moving him to first on the conference chart ahead of Minshew's 4,779 last year. - AP College Football

Max Borghi predicted that Washington State would beat Oregon State to become bowl eligible. On Saturday night, Borghi made his prediction come true with a 2-yard touchdown run with 2 seconds left to lift Washington State to a wild 54-53 victory. The final drive of the game came after the Washington State defense stopped Oregon State on a fourth-and-6 with 1:10 left in the game. Anthony Gordon then led Washington State on a 10-play, 58-yard drive, capped by Borghi's touchdown. The win makes Washington State (6-5, 3-5 Pac-12) bowl eligible for the fifth consecutive year.

Gordon went 50 of 70 for 606 yards, six touchdowns and three interceptions. He broke the Pac-12 single season passing touchdown record formerly held by Jake Browning and Jared Goff when he hit Renard Bell in the end zone with 1:44 left in the third quarter. Gordon has 45 passing touchdowns for the season. "It's pretty awesome," Gordon said. "I really haven't had the time to reflect on it. The individual awards aren't really all that important to me to be honest though. It just goes to show if you keep your head down and work hard anything is possible. I'm just real proud of the way our team battled. The defense did an unbelievable job of getting that stop on fourth down and giving us a chance and I'm so happy the way we pulled through on that last drive." - Washington State/AP College Football

Washington State quarterback Anthony Gordon threw for 520 yards and five touchdowns in a victory over Stanford, and coach Mike Leach was full of praise for the senior on Saturday. "Right now he is probably playing quarterback better than anyone in the country," said Leach, who has coached many top quarterbacks. "He made play after play in that game that other quarterbacks can't do." Washington State scored the final 24 points of the game in beating Stanford 49-22, to move within one win of becoming bowl eligible. It was their first victory in almost a month. "It was our most complete game of the season," Leach said.

Gordon completed 44 of 60 passes and was intercepted once. He now has 39 touchdown passes on the season, which leads the nation and is a team record. "He's real accurate," Leach said of Gordon. "He throws for a great deal of yards. When pressured he can do something with the ball. He typically doesn't take many sacks." "That's quite the compliment coming from coach Leach," Gordon said. "But I haven't reached my ceiling yet," he said. "I can improve." Easop Winston Jr. caught 11 passes for 107 yards and a pair of touchdowns for Washington State (5-5, 2-5 Pac-12), which has a four-game winning streak against the Cardinal. Max Borghi rushed for 111 yards and scored a pair of touchdowns. - Washington State/AP College Football

Anthony Gordon waited for years to get on the field for Washington State. He's certainly has made up for the lost time. The senior who succeeded Gardner Minshew as the Cougars' starter this season leads the nation with 3,387 passing yards and an average of 423 yards through the air per game. Gordon has also thrown for 32 touchdowns with only nine interceptions in eight games. He is eyeing the Pac-12 touchdown record set by Washington's Jake Browning (43) and the league record of 4,776 passing yards set by Minshew last season. Of course, it's not uncommon for a quarterback playing in coach Mike Leach's Air Raid offense to lead the nation in passing since the Cougars throw on most downs, averaging 52 passes a game.

But he has been a bright spot during a tough season for Washington State. Gordon said he gets along well with Leach, who is also the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. "We see the field the same," Gordon said. "We have the same mindset: Tack downfield and put points on the board." It's been a long haul for the 22-year-old Gordon to get to this point with the Cougars (4-4, 1-4 Pac-12). Coming out of Terra Nova High School in Pacifica, California, Gordon spent his freshman year at City College of San Francisco, where he led the Rams to a 12-1 record during the 2015 season. He jumped at a scholarship offer from Washington State and redshirted in 2016. He didn't play as a sophomore in 2017. - AP College Football

Hubbard's average of 178.2 yards per game is well ahead of Boston College's Dillon (142.9 ypg). Other leaders are Washington State's Anthony Gordon in passing yards (423.4 ypg) and Arkansas State's Omar Bayless in receiving yards (129.8 ypg). Team leaders are Oklahoma in scoring (49.3 ppg) and total offense (598.4 ypg), Ohio State in scoring defense (7.9 ppg) and Wisconsin in total defense (223.5 ypg). - AP College Football

After a few frustrating weeks, Washington State coach Mike Leach was pleased to see the Cougars play with a level of consistency that has been absent. "Consistency and the mental tough ness to stay focused from one play to the next," Leach said. "Everyone wants to get ahead of themselves but all you have is that one play in the present moment and you better focus on that one and I thought we did a better job of keeping track of that tonight." Anthony Gordon passed for 369 yards and four touchdowns and Washington State rolled over Colorado 41-10 on Saturday, snapping the Cougars' three-game losing streak.

Gordon threw a 4-yard TD pass to Max Borghi and a 22-yarder to Dezmon Patmon in the first quarter as the Cougars (4-3, 1/3 Pac-12) jumped to a 14-0 lead, scored touchdowns on their first three drives and cruised to a needed victory. Gordon was 35-of-51 passing and connected with eight different receivers. The WSU defense was excellent after weeks of getting of getting shredded. Colorado was limited to 320 total yards and quarterback Steven Montez was intercepted twice. "I think we are emerging defensively," Leach said. "We simplified some things but we are still kind of coming together there a little bit, honestly. I think the defense has some of its best football ahead of us." Borghi was also outstanding on the ground, rushing for 105 yards, including a 47-yard touchdown run late in the first quarter that gave the Cougars a 21-3 lead. - Washington State/AP College Football

It shouldn't be that much of a surprise considering Mike Leach's reputation for producing prolific quarterbacks in his system, but Washington State quarterback Anthony Gordon is leading the league - and the nation - in many statistical categories. He ranks first nationally in passing yards (2,612) and average yards per game (435.3), and he ranks second in the country with 25 touchdowns. He's thrown for 400 or more yards five times this season.

Gordon has picked up pretty much where Gardner Minshew left off, except the Cougs aren't putting up wins. "It's not like a version of the Air Raid, it's just a real Air Raid. They really have it down to a science and they have a quarterback that can run it. He can run the offense, he knows how it works and he can put a lot of pressure on your defense," Colorado coach Mel Tucker said.   Anthony Gordon threw for 440 yards and three touchdowns for his third straight 400-yard game as No. 20 Washington State pulled away in the second half to get a 31-24 win over Houston on Friday night. Gordon threw a 7-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter and had two 39-yard scoring throws, including one in the third quarter that gave Washington State (3-0) the lead for good. It was the first meeting as head coaches for Washington State's Mike Leach and Houston's Dana Holgorsen, who first met almost 30 years ago when Holgorsen played at Iowa Wesleyan, where Leach was an assistant.

The two coached together at both Valdosta State and Texas Tech and have remained close since that time, adding some familiarity to this game between teams meeting for just the fourth time. D'Eriq King had 128 yards passing and a score and added 94 yards rushing and two touchdowns on a night Houston (1-2) led 14-7 at halftime. But Houston struggled to move the ball in the second half, lost two fumbles and didn't get in the end zone after halftime until King's 12-yard run with 2:21 left cut the lead to 31-24. Brandon Arconado had nine receptions for 115 yards and Max Borghi added 61 yards receiving and ran for a touchdown in the third quarter to help Washington State to the victory. - AP College Football

Max Borghi scored three touchdowns and Easop Winston Jr. caught two scoring passes for Washington State (2-0). Jacob Knipp completed 8 of 15 passes for 128 yards for Northern Colorado (0-2) of the Big Sky Conference. Gordon replied with a 4-yard touchdown pass to Borghi for a 14-7 lead.

The Bears drove into Washington State territory, but running back Jullen Ison fumbled and the Cougars' Ron Stone recovered at the 29. Gordon's 39-yard pass to Brandon Arconado set up Borghi's 2-yard touchdown run for a 21-7 lead. Collin Root kicked a 50-yard field goal to cut the deficit to 21-10 late in the first half.   Anthony Gordon's starting debut for No. 23 Washington State was perfect for most of the first half and nearly flawless overall. Gordon completed his first 15 passes, threw for 330 yards and four touchdowns in the first half, and No. 23 Washington State rolled past New Mexico State 58-7 on Saturday night. Gordon made his first college start memorable throwing touchdowns of 41, 48, 19 and 54 yards in the first half as the Cougars (1-0) built a 35-7 lead and coasted to an easy opening victory. Gordon finished 29 of 35 for 420 yards and five TD passes before checking out late in the third quarter.

Gordon, who had just five career passes coming into the season, beat out Eastern Washington transfer Gage Gubrud for the starting job with a stellar fall camp and his performance in camp continued into the start of the season. Gordon hit Rodrick Fisher for a 41-yard TD on the opening drive of the game and the passing onslaught was only getting started. Gordon added a 48-yard catch-and-run TD to Dezmon Patmon, hit Easop Winston Jr. on a 19-yard score and capped his big half with a 54-yard touchdown toss to Travell Harris. Gordon hit 22 of 23 passes in the first half. The only incompletion was a drop by Brandon Arconado midway through the second quarter. - AP College Football
