  Isaiah Davis had 19 carries for 108 yards and two touchdowns, Pierre Strong added 73 yards rushing and a score, and South Dakota State beat No. 4 seed Sacramento State 24-19 on Saturday night in the second round of the FCS playoffs. Un-seeded South Dakota State (10-3), ranked No. 11 in the most recent FCS coaches poll, plays No. 5 seed Villanova in next weekend's quarterfinals. The Hornets (9-3) had their program-record eight-game win streak snapped. After Sacramento State (9-3) went three-and-out on the game's opening drive, Chris Oladokun hit Jadon Janke for a 29-yard game on third-and-3 before Strong capped an eight-play, 73-yard drive with a 5-yard touchdown run and the Jackrabbits led the rest of the way.

Cole Frahm kicked a 45-yard field goal to make it 10-0 late in the first quarter and Davis capped a seven-play 88 yard drive with a 7-yard touchdown run about 5 minutes into the second quarter. The Hornets moved to the SDSU 35 before Cade Terveer picked off a pass at the 23 and returned it 4 yards and Davis added a 6-yard scoring run to make it 24-0 with 1:43 to play in the first half. Kyle Sentkowski sandwiched field goals of 44 - as time in the second quarter expired - and 48 yards early in the fourth around a 3-yard touchdown pass from Jake Dunniway to Pierre Williams.   2021 ALL-MISSOURI VALLEY FOOTBALL FIRST TEAM (COACHES): RB - Pierre Strong Jr., South Dakota State,...Strong, a senior running back from Little Rock, Arkansas, finished the regular season with a league-best 1,317 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns. A finalist for the Stats Perform FCS Walter Payton Award, he topped the 100-yard mark in eight of 11 games and averaged 6.9 yards per carry.   Isaiah Davis and Pierre Strong combined for over 400 yards rushing, Dalys Beanum had three interceptions and South Dakota State routed UC Davis 56-24 on Saturday in the first round of the Football Championship Series playoffs. The Jackrabbits (9-3), who finished with a program-playoff record six interceptions, will face fourth-seeded Sacramento State in the second round. Davis had 15 carries for 217 yards with an 18-yard touchdown run. Strong added 185 yards on the ground with TD runs of 2 and 13 yards. Strong also threw a 10-yard touchdown pass to Chris Oladokun. Oladokun was 8-of-17 passing for 89 yards with two touchdown passes.

Linebacker Adam Bock intercepted a deflected pass and ran 39 yards into the end zone in the third quarter for the Jackrabbits. Beanum's 59-yard pick-6 stretched the lead to 56-17 midway through the fourth. Ulonzo Gilliam's 2-yard touchdown run late in the second quarter pulled UC Davis (8-4) to 28-17. Hunter Rodrigues had a 14-yard touchdown run late in the fourth, but he finished with four interceptions.   Pierre Strong Jr. had two touchdown runs and the running back threw for another score as South Dakota State knocked off previously unbeaten and second-ranked North Dakota State 27-19 on Saturday. It was the second win in a row for the 12th-ranked Jackrabbits (7-2, 4-2 Missouri Valley Football Conference) against rival North Dakota State (8-1, 5-1). South Dakota State snapped the Bison's 32-game home winning streak with a 27-17 victory in April. Strong broke loose with a 75-yard touchdown run on the second play following the opening kickoff. He finished with 22 carries for 152 yards, and surpassed the 1,000-yard mark in a season for the third time in his career.

Smith added a 1-yard TD run late in the first quarter and then tossed an 11-yard pass to a wide-open Tucker Kraft in the end zone as the Jackrabbits built a 24-7 halftime lead. Cam Miller's 14-yard touchdown pass to RaJa Nelson late in the third quarter pulled North Dakota State to 27-14. Miller then led an 88-yard drive on the next series but threw an incomplete pass on fourth-and-goal.   Pierre Strong rushed for 163 yards and two touchdowns and South Dakota State cruised past Youngstown State 47-16 on Saturday. The Jackrabbits (6-2, 3-2 Missouri Valley Football Conference), ranked No. 13 in the FCS coaches poll, rebounded from a loss to No. 17 Northern Iowa to remain in the thick of the MVFC race for the postseason.   Chris Oladokun threw for two touchdowns, Pierre Strong Jr. ran for two and South Dakota State broke open a close game with a 21-point third quarter in taking a 41-17 victory over Western Illinois on Saturday. South Dakota State led 13-10 at halftime before Kinser Madison blocked a punt and Canyon Bauer returned it 9 yards early in the third quarter. After the Leathernecks rebounded with Myles Wanza's 15-yard TD run, the Jackrabbits added TDs on a 17-yard run by Strong and a Jaxon Janke 21-yard reception to lead 34-17 heading into the final quarter. Strong, who added his second touchdown of the game and ninth this season in the fourth quarter, finished with 122 yards on 19 carries. He collected his fifth 100-yard game this season and 15th of his career.   Chris Oladokun threw two touchdown passes, Pierre Strong Jr. ran for two more scores and South Dakota State beat Dixie State 55-7 on Saturday night. South Dakota State (4-0) went three-and-out three times and had minus-8 total yards in its first four offensive possessions before exploding in the second quarter for 35 points. Oladokun converted a fourth-and-1 with a 2-yard run on a keeper on the first play of the period and, on the next play, Strong exploded up the middle for a 21-yard touchdown to open the scoring.

After a Dixie State punt, Oladokun hit Michael Morgan for an 11-yard touchdown with 7:06 left in the quarter and Dalys Beamun returned an interception 36 yards for a score 59 seconds later. Strong added a 3-yard touchdown run with 4:31 to go and Oladokun connected on a 4-yard TD pass to Zach Heinz to make it 35-0 with 10 seconds left in the half. Dixie State (0-4) finished with zero yards rushing on 23 carries and committed five turnovers.   Chris Oladokun passed for 224 yards with tw0 touchdowns and ran for another, Pierre Strong, Jr. rushed for two more scores as South Dakota State thundered past Colorado State 42-23 on Friday night. Oladokun, who came to SDSU as a graduate transfer (Samford, USF) over the summer was 18-for-28 passing without an interception. Strong piled up 106 yards by halftime, finishing with 138. Sophomore Isaiah Davis rushed for 84 yards and a TD, most in the second half. Jadon Janke caught six passes for 92 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

The FCS versus FBS matchup was the season opener for each team, and out of four meetings Friday between the two college football subdivisions, South Dakota State was the lone FCS team to pull out the upset.   Pierre Strong Jr. ran 18 times for 99 yards and a touchdown and completed an 89-yard TD pass to Cade Johnson as South Dakota State beat Missouri State 35-14 on Saturday. Strong made a forward flip to Johnson on a fly sweep and Johnson took it to the end zone for the longest pass play in nearly five years for the Jackrabbits (7-2, 4-1 Missouri Valley Football Conference). Austin Sumner completed a 91-yard TD pass to Jake Wieneke on Nov. 8, 2014.

South Dakota State opened a 21-0 lead with touchdowns in each of the first three quarters. The Bears (1-7, 1-4) cut the deficit to 21-7 on a 57-yard run early in the fourth quarter, but the Jackrabbits scored twice to make it 35-7 before Missouri State capped the scoring. Johnson finished with five catches for 164 yards and a score for South Dakota State. Keaton Heide passed for 173 yards and a score.   Pierre Strong scored two touchdowns and the South Dakota State special teams blocked three kicks as the Jackrabbits beat Southern Utah 43-7 on Saturday night. Strong had 11 carries for 85 yards and a score and added a 45-yard touchdown catch. J'Bore Gibbs completed 15 of 24 passes for 215 yards and two touchdowns with two interceptions for South Dakota State (2-1), which came in ranked No. 3 in the FCS Coaches poll. After forcing the Jackrabbits to punt on the game's opening drive, Southern Utah (1-2) drove to the SDSU 36 where, on fourth-and-5, Thomas Duckett was stopped for a 4-yard loss. On the next play, Gibbs connected with Cade Johnson for a 23-yard gain and, three plays later on fourth-and-3, hit Johnson again, this time for a 30-yard touchdown.

Mikey Daniel scored on a 1-yard run early in the second quarter and C.J. Wilson's 8-yard TD run with three minutes left in the first half made it 21-0. Chris Helbig scored on a 1-yard keeper to get the Thunderbirds on the board just before halftime but, on the first drive of the second half, South Dakota State's Jaxon Janke blocked a punt that rolled out of the back of the end zone for a safety.
