Former University of Colorado wide receiver Dimitri Stanley officially signed with Iowa State football on Wednesday. Stanley entered the transfer portal on January 21 and shared in March that he would join the Cyclones, but wasn't signed to the program u ntil May. When he announced his decision in January, he became the 21st player from Colorado to enter the transfer portal since last September. The Colorado native dealt with a lower body injury during the 2021 season but led the Buffaloes in receiving y ards during the shortened 2020 season.He started eight games in his redshirt freshman season and was on the watch list for Freshman All-American by the Football Writers Association of America. A three-star recruit and the No. 3 prospect in Colorad o coming out of high school, Iowa State was one of a dozen schools that originally offered Stanley. The Cyclones were one of the first four teams that showed serious interest in Stanley, offering him the same day as Colorado in 2017. Stanley will be a re dshirt senior in 2022 with two years of eligibility remaining but will need to compete with Xavier Hutchinson for playing time. - Des Moines Register

Of the 11 receivers on scholarship, seven are still technically freshmen, thanks in part to the NCAA not counting the 2020 season towards eligibility. All three walk-ons are freshmen, as well. There's not a single senior in the group. "The veteran guy is probably Dimitri Stanley, who's played a significant amount of college football," Chiaverini said. "Besides that, everybody else is really, really young, as far as their snaps in college football." Led by Stanley, a sophomore, and third-year freshman La 'Vontae Shenault, it is a group that could be exciting to watch. Stanley, a Cherry Creek High School graduate, is entering his fourth year with the program. Counting the Alamo Bowl, he led the Buffs in receptions (20) and receiving yards (335) last seaso n. He's had 55 catches in his career and has also handled the Buffs' punt return duties. - Daily Camera

In the past two seasons, Dimitri Stanley has become one of Colorado's best receivers. The sophomore doesn't believe, however, he's reached his full potential. "I want to improve upon my blocking," Stanley said after the Buffs' third practice of spring on Friday. "I think I could have been a lot more efficient in the blocking game and in the run game. And then pretty much yards after catch - I think I can do a lot more from that standpoint. "Even on punt return, I think I can be one of the best returners in the (Pac-12). Just going into the season with that kind of confidence is going to take my game to the next level."With KD Nixon transferring to Southern California this winter, the 6-foot, 190-pound Stanley is entering his fourth season with t he Buffs as the most experienced receiver on the team. In 21 career games, Stanley has caught 55 passes for 690 yards and three touchdowns, while returning 18 punts for 124 yards. During the abbreviated 2020 season, he caught a team-high 20 passes for 33 5 yards and a touchdown. During the first week of spring practices, Stanley feels ready to take his game to another level. "So far I feel a lot better, honestly," he said. "I feel faster, stronger, quicker. I feel like I'm making guys miss. I feel like I 'm catching the ball better. I'm honestly thinking that I'm just getting ready for the season now. I think I'm halfway there already. So, from this standpoint, it's just seeing how far I can go." - Daily Camera

During the last two seasons, Dimitri Stanley has laid a foundation by gaining some experience in college football. Now, the Colorado receiver is hoping to build upon that and become a better player. Although the coronavirus pandemic has created some unce rtainty about whether there will be a college football season this fall, Stanley has spent his offseason improving his craft. "I've just been preparing myself as much as possible," said Stanley, a redshirt sophomore from Cherry Creek High School. "I've j ust been in the weight room, been conditioning, been on the field doing footwork and getting catches in."In 2018, the 5-foot-11, 190-pound Stanley took advantage of the NCAA's new redshirt rule to play in three games and maintain his redshirt. He started two of those games, catching six passes for 43 yards. Last year, he played in all 12 games, including eight as a starter in the slot, finishing fourth on the team in receptions (29) and receiving yards (312), while hauling in two touchdowns. With 15 games under his belt, Stanley said, "I've just learned how much faster the game is; what kind of pace that I have to play and the standard that I have to hold myself to.
