Cornerback Jerry Jacobs, a senior graduate transfer, has opted out of the rest of the season and is no longer on the team, University of Arkansas Coach Sam Pittman announced Monday. The decision came soon after Jacobs posted a short statement that read " Pray for better days" on his Twitter account. Later, Jacobs announced his intentions, writing, "First and foremost, I would like to thank Coach Pittman and the entire coaching staff for giving me this opportunity. I also want to thank my teammates and th e amazing Arkansas fans for welcoming me in with open arms. "After much prayer and discussion with my family, I've decided that it is best for me to opt out of my final year and declare for the NFL draft. I have worked long and hard for the opportunity t o play in the NFL and believe this is the right time to pursue this goal. I'm humbled and excited to attack this next challenge."Jacobs transferred from Arkansas State over the summer after rehabbing from surgery to repair the anterior cruciate li gament in his right knee. The 5-11, 203-pounder from Atlanta started the first three games this season before freshman Khari Johnson earned a starting job in that spot for Arkansas' 33-21 win over Ole Miss on Oct. 17. Jacobs registered 17 tackles, all of them solo, to rank seventh on the team through four games. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the NCAA has granted extra years of eligibility this season, so Jacobs will have one more full season of NCAA eligibility remaining. - Northwest Arkansas Times

Cornerback Jerry Jacobs passed the eyeball test on several occasions. The transfer from Arkansas State was playing in his first game since suffering a season-ending injury against Georgia last September. He was understandably amped up for the game and ap peared to play well. He finished the game with seven tackles and contested a couple of passes that were caught on great individual efforts by Georgia receivers, including a third-down catch by Jermaine Burton in the red zone that set up a touchdown on th e Bulldogs' next play. - Northwest Arkansas Times

Only one member of Arkansas' secondary has played against season-opening foe Georgia even though he hasn't played a game for the Razorbacks yet. Cornerback Jerry Jacobs (5-11, 206 pounds), a graduate transfer from Arkansas State, was on the field last se ason for his team's 55-0 loss at Georgia, a game during which he suffered a season-ending knee injury. "Man, I was so excited, so happy," Jacobs said Tuesday of when he learned the Razorbacks would open against Georgia. "I had to check because I heard it from one of my teammates, but I just had to go make sure they were right. "When I heard it was the first game, I just got pumped because I didn't finish off what I started when I played them last year because I got hurt. I am ready to show them guys wha t I've got." Jacobs appeared in all 13 games for ASU in 2018 with 11 starts and finished with 31 tackles. He also had a team-high 4 interceptions, 3 tackles for lost yardage, 8 pass break-ups and 12 total passes defended. - Northwest Arkansas Times
