SMU's lesser-targeted receivers were asked to shoulder a bigger load last week against Navy. A week later, after successfully accomplishing their mission, the load might be a little heavier. SMU head coach Rhett Lashlee told reporters on Wednesday that wide receiver Beau Corrales, a transfer from North Carolina, is "probably going to be in the same boat as Jake Bailey," another receiver transfer whom Lashlee said last week would likely miss the rest of the season. Corrales, like Bailey, injured his shoulder in fall camp but did eventually return to the field. Corrales caught a combined six passes for 71 yards in two games played this season.

He suited up for last week's game against Navy, but didn't play. "He's tough," Lashlee said of Corrales. "He tried to go against UCF, he tried to go against TCU, because he wanted to, but probably for both him and Jake the best thing is to get them healthy and get their injuries fixed, so he's probably out." Lashlee said Corrales is "really a prime candidate" to get another year of eligibility if he wanted to pursue it. Corrales has battled injuries for the majority of his college career. He had three surgeries to fix a sports hernia before transferring to SMU. In total, he's played in eight games since the start of the 2020 season. - Dallas Morning News

Former North Carolina wide receiver Beau Corrales impressed in his first spring at SMU. The Mustangs also added a transfer commitment from Rice wide receiver Jake Bailey, who had 714 yards receiving a year ago. Former Texas wide receiver Joshua Moore committed to transfer to SMU, but hasn't enrolled and it's not a guarantee he does by the time fall starts. Knox (5-foot-11, 170 pounds) provides the SMU wide receiver room with an immediate speed element. As a sophomore in high school he had a personal record of 10.4 in the 100-meter dash and 21.03 in the 200 meter. - Dallas Morning News

Fifth-year UNC football standout Beau Corrales is set to begin his final season in a Tar Heel uniform, hoping to avoid the kind of injuries that have plagued his four years in Chapel Hill. His most recent run-in with the injury bug was a sports hernia last year that required surgery and forced him to miss the team's final handful of games of the season. Back on the field in 2021 for an additional season of college football - that thanks to the NCAA allowing all student-athletes an extra year of eligibility due to the Covid-19 pandemic that affected so much of the 2020 season - Corrales is ready to make a difference for the ACC Coastal-favorite Tar Heels. But he's also got some side activities going on in the mean time.

On Saturday, it was announced that the Georgetown, Texas native will be teaming with Bojangles this season. That marriage is thanks to the NCAA's new NIL rules allowing student-athletes to earn money from their name, image and likeness while still in college. The popular fried chicken chain sent out a tweet on Saturday evening that touted their new partnership, stating that it's "Beau time." - Keeping It Heel

Five North Carolina seniors had myriad personal reasons for choosing to return for another final football season, yet they each overlapped on one in particular. They believe the Tar Heels have to potential to do something special next season. Linebackers Tyrone Hopper and Tomon Fox, receiver Beau Corrales, tight end Garrett Walston and kicker Grayson Atkins, in a normal year, would have exhausted their eligibility after the Heels' 41-27 loss to Texas A&M in the Orange Bowl. But thanks to an NCAA waiver passed last summer for all fall sports, they had the option to play another senior year with the thought that it won't be interrupted by COVID-19. They're the only football players who took advantage of it at UNC. - Raleigh News Observer

Running back Michael Carter is among the UNC players who will be recognized Saturday on senior day. North Carolina coach Mack Brown said seniors Beau Corrales, Tyrone Hopper and Grayson Atkins decided to take advantage of an NCAA eligibility waiver and will return for another year. Brown told reporters Wednesday that the Tar Heels, as part the team's senior day ceremony Saturday before the game against Western Carolina, will recognize 16 players who are graduating and will not return to Chapel Hill next season. "All those guys have graduated and they will not be back," Brown said. "They'll be either graduate transfers, or they'll be going to the NFL or in the workforce in business." - Raleigh News Observer
