Daniel Carson, Georgia Tech, Player News

In need of depth on the defensive line, Georgia Tech picked up a commitment from the transfer portal Saturday. Former Western Illinois defensive lineman Daniel Carson announced his commitment to the Yellow Jackets in a tweet. Out of high school in Independence, Mo., Carson was a three-star prospect in the 2018 class who signed with Texas over offers from Alabama, Miami and others.

At Texas, however, he played in four games in three seasons and transferred to Western Illinois in December 2020. Playing the FCS season in the spring of 2021 and again in the fall, Carson played in a total of 12 games. He started eight of the 12, including seven in the fall of 2021. In seven games last season, he was credited with 13 tackles, including two for loss. It would appear that Carson has two seasons of eligibility remaining. - Atlanta Journal Constitution

After entering the NCAA transfer portal 11 days ago, former Texas Longhorns redshirt sophomore defensive tackle Daniel Carson announced on Tuesday that he'll join the Western Illinois Leathernecks program. The 6'4, 276-pounder signed with Texas in the 2018 recruiting class out of the Kansas City area, Carson was a consensus three-star prospect ranked as the No. 23 strong-side defensive end nationally, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings. Carson redshirted during his first season on the Forty Acres, then appeared in four games last season, making one tackle against Louisiana Tech. When new defensive coordinator Chris Ash arrived at Texas and shifted to a four-down front, Carson moved inside from defensive end to defensive tackle. - Burnt Orange Nation

In a brief statement expressing gratitude for the Texas strength staff, led by Yancy McKnight, and his teammates, redshirt sophomore defensive tackle Daniel Carson announced he had entered the NCAA transfer portal. "First, I would like to thank the strength staff at the University of Texas for giving me the strength and mental toughness I have gained the last three years," Carson wrote Thursday in a note posted to Twitter. "Specifically, coach McKnight for taking me and molding me into the man I've become today." Carson was a two-time all-state selection at William Chrisman (Independence, Mo.) was the state's No. 9 prospect and nation's No. 23 strong-side defensive end as a 2018 senior, per the 247Sports composite. - Houston Chronicle
