Eli Stove, Auburn, Player News
|
Eli Stove is one of former Auburn wide receiver coach Kodi Burns' favorite players he's ever coached, and Burns is positive any team that signs him will benefit from his hard work and talent. That team will be Los Angeles Chargers, who signed Stove as an undrafted free agent Saturday, following the 2021 NFL Draft. At Auburn, Stove was a veteran wide receiver who managed to be one of the top five receivers in four of his five years despite injuries. Both his fourth and fifth seasons, he was the third-mos t productive receiver on the team. In 2020, he finished with 44 catches for 359 yards and three touchdowns. - Birmingham News

After a productive five-year run at Auburn, wide receiver Eli Stove is turning his attention to the NFL. Stove announced Tuesday he will not use his extra year of eligibility granted by the NCAA and will instead turn his attention to the 2021 NFL Draft. Stove's decision comes after a productive tenure with the Tigers during which he recorded the fifth-most receptions in program history. Stove leaves Auburn with 136 receptions for 1,186 yards and six touchdowns. His decision means the Tigers' top three r eceivers from 2020 - which includes Seth Williams and Anthony Schwartz - will not return for 2021. - Opelika-Auburn News

The Auburn Tigers were missing two valuable offensive players for most of the Georgia game in running back Shaun Shivers and wide receiver Eli Stove. As of Wednesday, it's not clear if the duo will be back this Saturday, either. Auburn head coach Gus Mal zahn said both players are "still questionable" during the SEC coaches teleconference on Wednesday. Malzahn's update comes after Shivers was limited in practice last week and missed the Georgia game and after Stove left the loss to the Bulldogs early due to injury. "We're hoping by (Thursday) we'll know more about those two's statuses," Malzahn said. Shivers entered the season opener against Kentucky as the team's top running back on the depth chart and closed out the Tigers' victory over the Wildcats w ith six carries for 29 yards. The junior, who goes by the nickname "Worm," was unable to play against Georgia and ceded the top running back duties to true freshman Tank Bigsby, who had eight carries for 31 yards and also had seven receptions for 68 yard s and 72 kick-return yards. - Opelika-Auburn News
