Lamical Perine scored on a 61-yard run in the opening minute and didn't stop after that, totaling 181 yards rushing and receiving with three touchdowns Monday to help No. 6 Florida beat Virginia 36-28 in the Orange Bowl. Perine carried 13 times for a career-high 138 yards rushing at the end of a so-so senior season. But Perine was too quick and speedy for the Cavaliers, as his dash through their secondary on the first series showed. He also scored on a 10-yard run, caught a 16-yard touchdown pass from Kyle Trask and was chosen the game's most valuable player.

The win means Florida (11-2), led by second-year coach Dan Mullen, will likely finish in the Top Ten in consecutive seasons for the first time since 2008-09. The Cavaliers (9-5) lost their final two games, but still posted their highest win total since 2007. Trask capped a storybook junior season by throwing for 305 yards. Florida totaled 549 yards, including a season-high 244 rushing, and didn't punt until midway through the third quarter. The Cavaliers' offense tried valiantly to keep up. Bryce Perkins threw for 323 yards and four scores. - AP College Football

  10/06/19 - RB Lamical PerineSr/2020, Florida, 5-11, 216 (DS#12 RB) + More +

Lamical Perine was too slow to play for Auburn three years ago, a hurtful evaluation that's stuck with him. He showed plenty of speed while running away from the Tigers - and a few guys he played against in high school - in the Swamp. Perine broke loose for an 88-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter, Florida's defense delivered another gem and the No. 10 Gators beat seventh-ranked Auburn 24-13 in a matchup of unbeaten teams.

Perine broke linebacker K.J. Britt's tackle at the line of scrimmage and scampered down the sideline for the program's longest TD run in more than 30 years. It gave the Gators (6-0, 3-0 Southeastern Conference) extra breathing room in a game they never trailed. Doing it against Auburn was extra special. - AP College Football

  07/15/19 - RB Lamical PerineSr/2020, Florida, 5-11, 216 (DS#12 RB) + More +

There was every reason for Auburn to recruit and offer Florida running back Lamical Perine. He hailed from the state of Alabama. His father Terrance played for Auburn. And, most importantly, he was really good - running for 15 touchdowns in his senior season of high school. But, Auburn didn't offer him. "I'm not an Auburn fan at all," Perine said. "They recruited me a little bit. But I didn't have an offer from them. They told me I was too slow. You can tell on my film, you can tell I'm not that slow. They had their opinion." Perine is a top running back for Florida, now entering his senior season, after recording eight TDs last year on the ground in the air. And it's in his senior season that he'll finally get a chance to play Auburn - the two teams will meet up for the first time in eight years this October.

Perine does not remember which coach told him that he was too slow. But he said it was not something he heard from any other coach throughout the recruiting process. He did have other offers from Alabama, Mississippi State and Minnesota, among others. "I remember those words. Saying they felt I needed to get my speed up. And things like that, and I'll never forget that. Honestly, that didn't stop Florida and other schools from offering me. As for if he heard that criticism from anyone else? "No, that was just something from Auburn." - Birmingham News
