Oklahoma State linebacker Calvin Bundage became the latest Cowboy to announce he will be moving on to professional football. Bundage, who was regularly used as a pass-rush specialist, led the Cowboys with seven sacks and six quarterback hurries. The 6-fo ot-1, 220-pound Edmond Santa Fe product had 3.5 sacks over the final four games of the season. - Daily Oklahoman

The 6-foot-1, 220-pound senior says he learned that he was playing with the injury longer than he knew. "I never really played fully healthy, but I didn't know I wasn't healthy," he said. "Now it's a big difference. "It feels great to put everything at r est and prove I'm the best. I feel like I came back better than last time. I'm a better player this year." As good as Calvin felt on the inside, those on the outside were cautiously hopeful as they watched him return. "I was holding my breath with him un til I saw him get into some tackles and contact in practice," coach Mike Gundy said. "I was hoping he would be there tomorrow and push through it, and he's done well." Now nearly six weeks into preseason practices, coaches and teammates are raving about Calvin's play.He stands to bring an extra element as a pass rusher to the linebacker group that includes a pair of starters - Amen Ogbongbemiga and Malcolm Rodriguez - who had over 100 tackles apiece last season. "I was hoping Calvin could come ba ck and play, for him more so than for the team," Gundy said. "As a coach, it's just tragic when you see a young man who can't compete anymore who still wants to play the game. "I'm really excited for him. His attitude, his posture and his demeanor over t he past two months has been fabulous. He's smiling again. I'm just happy that he gets to get back on the field, because he loves to play football." The time away from the game reminded Calvin of that. "It convinced me that this is what I want to do until I can't do it anymore," he said. "I want to play football." - Daily Oklahoman

While his play on the practice field has drawn impressive reviews, Oklahoma State linebacker Calvin Bundage described a long and grueling path back to football that included back surgery last year. Bundage sat out last season with the injury, meeting wit h as many as eight doctors, some of whom told him to give up football. "This last year has just been battling through adversity trying to get back on the field," Bundage said on Tuesday. "In the last year, I've probably seen seven, eight doctors, but I f inally found one at the end. "Everybody was telling me it was a big deal and I probably shouldn't play football. I went to a great doctor and he fixed it. People shy away from back surgery, but mine turned out good." Oklahoma State safety Tre Sterling took quick note of how well linebacker Calvin Bundage was playing in his return to practice after missing last year with a back injury. "His first practice back, he had three sacks in a row. Three and out," Sterling sai d. "The way he rushes, I've never seen anyone rush like that before, with so much speed and so much violence. "He's going to be better than he was before his injury." A fifth-year senior from Edmond Santa Fe, Bundage is listed at 6-foot-1 and 220 pounds. He has shown such a knack for rushing the passer in preseason camp that players have almost taken to talking about him as a defensive end. With two returning starters at linebacker who each had over 100 tackles last season in Malcolm Rodriguez and Amen Ogbongbemiga, Bundage won't have to be an every-down player. He can be used situationally at times when he can best take advantage of his skills. - Daily Oklahoman

On his Oklahoma State website bio, Calvin Bundage was described during the preseason as an explosive talent...who figures to be a leader in 2019. Instead, he has been at the center of an ongoing mystery: Why isnt Bundage playing? A senior linebacker/edg e rusher from Edmond Santa Fe, Bundage is believed to have been bothered since the preseason by a back issue. The nature of the injury has not been disclosed by OSU coach Mike Gundy. A veteran of 20 starts, Bundage has not played in any game this season or traveled with the Cowboys for any road games, including Saturdays OSU-Iowa State Big 12 contest at Jack Trice Stadium. Sources close to the program indicate Bundage will miss the entire 2019 season, but is expected to remain a program member and play in 2020. - Tulsa World
