SIU defensive end Richie Hagarty was named first-team All-MVFC, while linebacker Branson Combs, wide receiver Avante Cox, fullback Jacob Garrett, safety PJ Jules and all-purpose back Javon Williams Jr. picked up second-team honors.   Javon Williams Jr. had four rushing touchdowns, Nic Baker threw for 227 yards and Southern Illinois controlled Western Illinois from the outset in a 30-7 win on Saturday for its fifth consecutive victory. A junior, Williams entered the game with 37 career touchdowns and needed one more to pass Cornell Craig for third place all-time in program history. Tom Koutsos owns the record at 52. His runs of 6 and 3 yards in the first quarter gave the Salukis (5-0, 4-2 Missouri Valley Football Conference) a 14-0 lead. His 1-yard plunge with 7:57 left before intermission made it 20-0, and his 5-yard score with 9:24 left in third were the final points of the game. Baker finished 25-of-27 passing.   OCT 9 MISSOURI VALLEY OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Javon Williams Jr., Southern Illinois, 6-2, 237, Jr. (Centralia, Ill./Centralia),...Williams Jr. led a Saluki offensive attack that scored 38-straight points at nationally ranked Missouri State, as Southern Illinois won it's fourth-straight game. Williams Jr. scored two touchdowns and totaled 121 yards of offense (45 rushing yards, 39 receiving yards, 37 passing yards). His 28-yard pass to Avante Cox set up SIU's first TD, he caught a 12-yard pass on 4th-and-7 that led to another score, and Williams Jr. scored himself on a pair of 1-yard TD runs.   Javon Williams Jr. and Romeir Elliott each had a pair of touchdown runs, and Southern Illinois beat top-ranked North Dakota State 38-14 on Saturday that ended the Bison's 39-game winning streak. North Dakota State (2-1, 1-1 Missouri Valley), which has won three straight FCS championships, last lost on Nov. 4, 2017 to then-No. 8 South Dakota State. It was the Bison's worst defeat since a 37-6 loss at Cal Poly during the 2005 season. Williams ran for a 3-yard score and Elliott broke loose for a 20-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter. Both scores followed a North Dakota State turnover. Elliott finished with 91 yards rushing and Williams had 41, and the pair also had touchdown runs in the second quarter.   Kare Lyles threw for four touchdowns - two each to Landon Lenoir and Avante Cox - and Southern Illinois put away Missouri State early in a 37-14 win on Saturday. Lenoir had 124 yards receiving on nine receptions and Javon Williams Jr. had 113 yards rushing on 10 carries. The Salukis (6-4, 4-2 Missouri Valley) scored on five of six possessions in the first half - four produced touchdowns - and they built a 30-0 lead by intermission. Southern Illinois piled up 555 yards of offense and 26 first downs, which helped offset three turnovers. Southern Illinois now has won four straight following a three-game losing streak. He is tied with FBS freshman running back Kenny Gainwell of Memphis. The 15 TDs is a freshman record at SIU and seventh overall in FCS this year. It's the most by a Saluki player since RB Jewel Hampton had 17 in 2011. In the game against Youngstown State, Williams Jr. became the first player in school history to rush for a TD, catch at TD and pass for a TD in the same game. Frequently operating out of the Wildcat formation, Williams Jr. averages 7.0 yards per carry and his 659 rushing yards ranks second among freshmen in SIU history.   Javon Williams Jr. ran for two touchdowns and Nico Gauldoni kicked three field goals as Southern Illinois beat Indiana State, 23-17 in a Missouri Valley Football Conference battle Saturday afternoon. Williams raced 54 yards on the Saluki's second series to score, but Dominique Dafney capped a five-play, 42-yard drive for the Sycamores to even the game at 7-7 early in the second quarter. Williams' second touchdown, a 2-yard run with 3:37 left in the first half put Southern Illinois on top for good. Gauldoni added a 24-yard field goal with :08 left in the half made it 17-7 at intermission. He converted from 36-yards out in the third and added a 27-yarder in the fourth quarter. D.J. Davis carried 22 times for 160 yards to lead the Salukis (5-4, 3-2), who ran for 265 yards. Williams carried 12 times for 84 yards.   Javon Williams Jr. ran for 107 yards and a career-high four touchdowns, Avante Cox had 193 yards from scrimmage and three total TDs, and Southern Illinois beat South Dakota 48-28 on Saturday. Williams had all four of his touchdowns in the first half and the Salukis (4-4, 2-2 Missouri Valley) outscored South Dakota 27-0 in the second quarter.   Javon Williams Jr. ran for two touchdowns and had another score receiving and Stone Labanowitz threw for four touchdowns as Southern Illinois scored 35 unanswered points to beat Massachusetts 45-20 on Saturday. Williams broke for a 64-yard touchdown early in the third quarter and ran 3 yards for another on the team's next drive to give the Salukis (1-1) a 31-13 lead with 7:25 left in the quarter. Both scoring drives were initiated by interceptions. Labanowitz threw two touchdown passes in the fourth quarter, one to Nigel Kilby and the other to Romeir Elliot for a 45-13 lead with 7:35 to play.

Williams finished with 103 yards receiving and 68 yards rushing. Labanowitz threw for 265 yards. UMass scored first but the Salukis came alive early in the second quarter, starting with Labanowitz's 85-yard strike to Williams on first down. Later, Griffin Cerra booted a 39-yard field goal to make it 10-6 with 3:19 left in the half. UMass took a brief 13-10 lead before Labanowitz struck again, this time to D.J.
