2019 BUCK BUCHANAN AWARD WATCHLIST ADDITION: DL Elerson Smith, Northern Iowa,...Smith leads the MVFC in sacks and tackles for loss and is ranked third in the FCS for sacks and 13th in the FCS for TFLs. He is seventh in forced fumbles in the FCS. Through nine games, he has 14.5 TFLs and 10.0 sacks. He also has three pass breakups, seven quarterback hits and three forced fumbles so far this year. He has total tackles on the season, good enough for eighth on the Panther team. OCT 7 MISSOURI VALLEY DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: DE Elerson Smith, UNI, 6-7, 245, Jr., Minneapolis, Minn. (Minneapolis South HS),...Smith picked up 2.5 sacks and 3.0 tackles for loss to help No. 13 UNI shut down the vaunted Youngstown State offense. T he Penguins came into the weekend averaging nearly 300 yards rushing a game, but UNI held them to just 55 on the day. Smith tallied six total tackles on the day and recorded an additional QB hit. He now has 7.5 sacks and 10.5 TFLs for the season. He is r anked first in the FCS for sacks and fourth in the FCS for tackles for loss. UNI ranks ninth in the FCS in total defense, ninth in team tackles for loss and sixth for team sacks. - Missouri Valley Conference Football

(Minneapolis South High),...Smith recorded a career-high three sacks to go along with a career-high 3.5 tackles for loss a nd nine tackles. He also had a forced fumble and a knocked down a pass. He led UNI to a stifling defensive performance. The Panthers held Idaho State to 203 yards of offense and just 69 yards rushing. The Panther defense tallied three interceptions, 10 t ackles for loss and five sacks. Through the last six games, Smith has 13.5 tackles for loss and 10 sacks. - Missouri Valley Conference Football
