Jalen Bates, Colorado State, Player News

Jalen Bates and Jamal Hicks were hoping to impress NFL scouts with their performances Wednesday at Colorado State football's annual Pro Day. Both performed solidly, but neither put up the kind of jaw-dropping efforts that would have assured them an NFL training camp invite this summer. "I was looking at, like, blowing the roof off this place, but I really didn't," Bates said after performing a series of agility tests and drills in front of scouts representing 24 NFL teams at CSU's Indoor Practice Facility. "I still feel like I did way better than average, so I feel like I should get a chance."

While scouts recorded the efforts of the 10 participants from CSU's 2019 team, they didn't share those results with the handful of media members on hand to watch the workouts from a distance. Bates and Hicks - the two participants most likely to get into an NFL camp - appeared to be among the leaders in both the vertical leap and broad jump, based on talk among the scouts and other observers. Bates, a 6-foot-4, 266-pound defensive end, recorded a vertical leap of 37 ½ inches and standing broad jump of 10 feet, 7 inches, according to representatives of his training program and agent. - Fort Collins Coloradoan

Mike Bobo has agreed to step down as football coach at Colorado State after a second straight losing season. The move was announced Wednesday by athletic director Joe Parker. Bobo went 28-35 during his five seasons in Fort Collins. The Rams made the move five days after a 31-24 loss to No. 19 Boise State to conclude the season. As part of his separation agreement, Bobo will receive $1.8 million payable in three payments. His contract was scheduled to run through the 2022 season. Bobo's tenure at Colorado State started fast as he led the Rams to three straight bowl games. But the Rams went 7-17 the past two seasons. Bobo was 2-13 against rivals Colorado, Air Force and Wyoming

"Unfortunately, the results the last couple of seasons have not been what we wanted," Bobo said in a statement. "I can assure you this was not a reflection of the commitment and hard work that we all put into the program the last five years. Our players and coaches never quit and fought through the final whistle against Boise State. I am so proud of this entire team and staff for their incredible resolve. A coaching search is underway. - AP College Football
