Ty Storey, Western Kentucky, Player News

Former Arkansas quarterback Ty Storey is returning to Northwest Arkansas. Storey, who started nine games for the Razorbacks in 2018 before transferring to Western Kentucky for his senior season, has been named the seventh-grade head football and basketball coach at Grimsley Junior High School in Centerton. Grimsley, the newest school in the Bentonville Public Schools system, is set to open on Aug. 16. "Thankful for the opportunity and excited to get to work!!" Storey tweeted Tuesday evening. A Charleston native, Storey transferred from Arkansas following the 2018 season in which he was 0-9 as a starter. He passed for 1,584 yards, 11 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. As Western Kentucky's quarterback, Storey returned to Fayetteville on Nov. 9 and led Western Kentucky to a 45-19 win over the Razorbacks in former coach Chad Morris' final game. - Northwest Arkansas Times

Ty Storey threw two touchdown passes, Jacquez Sloan ran for a score and Western Kentucky cashed in on turnovers to beat Southern Mississippi 28-10 on Saturday. DeAngelo Malone recovered a fourth-quarter fumble and ran five yards for the Hilltoppers' final TD after Jeremy Darvin's strip-sack of Jack Abraham. Sloan capped the opening drive with a 21-yard TD run and Western Kentucky (7-4, 5-2 Conference USA) led 21-7 at halftime after Storey threw a 64-yard TD pass to Jahcour Pearson and a 21-yarder to Quin Jerringham. Pearson's TD was set up by Trae Meadows' recovery of Quez Watkins' fumble, forced by Dionte Ruffin. Storey was 20 of 30 for 225 yards passing for the Hilltoppers. Abraham was 16 of 31 for 223 yards for the Golden Eagles (7-4, 5-2) with a 60-yard first-quarter TD pass to Tim Jones. - Western Kentucky/AP College Football

NOV 11 CONFERENCE USA OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: WKU graduate transfer QB Ty Storey took advantage of one of the most unique opportunities in college football this season, as the graduate transfer returned to his former school – Arkansas of the SEC – and led the Hilltoppers to a 45-19 dismantling of the Razorbacks. He completed 22-of-32 passes for 213 yards, including a 69-yard touchdown throw. Storey also rushed 17 times for 77 yard and two touchdowns, all career-highs in the ground game. Storey completed 68.8% of his passes, marking the sixth consecutive game in which he has completed at least 68% of his attempts. Of his 213 yards passing, Storey had 202 of those in the first half, when WKU built a 35-7 lead and cruised to its sixth victory of the season in the second frame. - Conference USA Football

Ty Storey, the son of a football coach and school administrator, has stoically answered questions from the media since his days as a high school All-American quarterback. It's how he was taught. And while his words stayed dry and plain after he led Western Kentucky to a 45-19 win over his former team, Arkansas, on Saturday, his expression belied those remarks. Storey, who lost his job as Arkansas starting quarterback in 2018, transferred to Western Kentucky after that season. His performance against old mates -- 22 for 32 for 213 yards with a touchdown and two more on the ground -- was the primary reason he gained his redemption.

As to whether he felt some schadenfreude, the facade cracked with a toothy grin and a touch of blush. "I'm playing for WKU. I hope the best for them," Storey said. "I hope they win out and do what they can. Right now, I have too much to focus on in Bowling Green." Storey was the most heralded in-state quarterback recruit Arkansas had netted in a generation. He was a Parade All-American and two-time Gatorade and Wendy's Player of the year in the state. And while it may have taken five years, he made an impression on the Razorbacks. He also may have been a harbinger of Arkansas coach Chad Morris' future. Arkansas didn't stop Storey or the Hilltoppers one time in the first half. Touchdown drives of 42, 75, 59, 73 and 68 yards paced Western Kentucky to a 35-7 halftime lead. - Western Kentucky/AP College Football

Ty Storey passed for 283 yards and two touchdowns and Western Kentucky scored the final 16 points to pull away from Charlotte 30-14 on Saturday. Lucky Jackson caught five passes for 141 yards and a touchdown for the Hilltoppers (5-2, 4-0 Conference USA). Cory Munson kicked field goals of 45, 32 and 48 yards to help Western Kentucky build a 23-14 lead with 5:41 left in the third quarter. Story connected with Jackson for an 8-yard TD pass to cap the scoring with 8 seconds left in the third. The teams scored touchdowns on four of the first five possessions of the game with Chris Reynolds' 47-yard pass to Benny LeMay making it 14-all for the 49ers (2-5, 0-3) with 9 minutes left in the second quarter. Reynolds passed for 200 yards, a touchdown and an interception, the only turnover in the game. - Western Kentucky/AP College Football

Ty Storey had two quarterback sneaks for touchdowns and Western Kentucky controlled Army for a 17-8 victory on Saturday night. The Black Knights (3-3) were close to being shut out until Kelvin Hopkins Jr.'s 8-yard touchdown pass to Malik Hancock with 1:41 left. The Hilltoppers (4-2) recovered the onside kick and improved to 3-0 all-time against Army. Western Kentucky held Army to a season-low 137 yards rushing and held the Black Knights to 3 of 11 on third-down attempts. Until the Black Knights' late touchdown, the Hilltoppers hadn't allowed a touchdown in nine straight quarters.

Storey completed 21 of 30 passes for 140 yards and finished with 62 yards rushing. Gaej Walker added 132 rushing yards for Western Kentucky. The Hilltoppers found the end zone on their opening drive on a keeper by Storey and freshman kicker Cory Munson made a 22-yard field goal to extend Western Kentucky's lead to 10-0 midway through the third quarter. Army's best drive featured its first completion on a 31-yard connection from Hopkins to Artice Hobbs, but three plays inside the WKU 10 and a missed field goal from David Cooper kept the Black Knights scoreless until the late touchdown. - Western Kentucky/AP College Football

Ty Storey threw two touchdown passes, including a 7-yarder to Jahcour Pearson early in the fourth quarter, and Western Kentucky picked off four passes and held on for a 20-13 victory over Alabama-Birmingham on Saturday. After playing to a 3-3 tie in the first quarter, UAB took a 10-3 lead on Spencer Brown's 2-yard touchdown run early in the second quarter to end a 15-play, 80-yard drive. Storey pulled the Hilltoppers (2-2, 2-0 Conference USA) even when he capped an eight-play, 68-yard drive with an 8-yard TD toss to Joshua Simon with 7:03 left in the quarter. Western Kentucky grabbed a 13-10 lead at halftime after Jeremy Darvin picked off a Tyler Johnston III pass that led to Cory Munson's 28-yard field goal.

The Blazers (3-1, 0-1) tied the game at 13 on their first possession of the third quarter when Nick Vogel booted a 38-yard field goal. The two teams traded punts before Storey put together the game-winning drive, completing 5 of 6 passes and culminating with his TD toss to Pearson. UAB's last chance ended when DeAngelo Malone sacked Johnson on fourth-and-19 at the WKU 48-yard line. Johnston finished 18-of-31 passing for 181 yards and four interceptions, including two by WKU's Kyle Bailey. Storey passed for 189 yards and led the Hilltoppers with 26 yards on the ground. Pearson had five catches for 94 yards. - Western Kentucky/AP College Football
